NW Rumors

Wed Dec 05, 2001 7:41 pm

NW is getting 767-200er to overfly amsterdam to other europeon cities.
that will be hard for the KLM to lose more pax.
and still nothing about KLM/ COTINENTAL.
will this be the end KLM/NW
and will there be a KLM/ BA like what there was in the newspaper this morning ( dutch telegraaf )

This RUMOR is entirely UNFOUNDED. Northwest is switching to an all-Airbus fleet. As you can see, they have ordered the A330-200. I don't know who, or what your source is, but you better make sure it isn't the FACETIOUS PRESS.

Correction, JetBlue320,

NW isnot going to an all-Airbus fleet. They've recently ordered more 747-400s and the 757-300. BTW, they have not ordered the A330-200, but the A330-300.

Emile,
On a regular basis you come up with a rumor that NW and KL are going to split. You usally give different reasons (this time 762's) but never once have you given a fact.

Why don't you just move on to a new subject until you can justify this reoccuring message of yours.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't NW / KL sign a rather long alliance agreement recently? I know NW / CO signed a 10 year (I'm not sure the length, but I know it was long).

I would think that short of an LBO of KLM nothing is going to end the alliance.

NW signed a 13 year agreement with KL and a 25 year agreement with CO.

Thanks bobnwa!

I thought so. I thought it was 25 years with CO, but I didn't want to look like an idiot!

NWA has looked into having Airbus build a smaller A-330 for smaller European markets out of the U.S. That study may have included looking at the 767 ER also. That certainly wouldn't have any effect on the alliances NWA has.

I don't know if this is a rumor or fact, but I had heard that Northwest was looking into an extended range 757 to fly to places like Warsaw and stuff without having to go to Amsterdam

HlywdCatft, (couldn't you pick a name slightly easier to spell? Big grin )

I've heard that rumor too. This aircraft was proposed by Boeing a few years ago, and I rememeber CO being very intersted. I wonder what happened to it?

NW was in talks with Boeing about building a 757-200ER that could serve 2nd tier European cites from DTW. They were also in discussion with Airbus but they didn't say what aircraft. Airbus has said they may build an A330-100 but didn't tie NW to that aircraft. If Airbus would build and updated A310 I think NW would go for that. NW wants to go back to some markets they use to serve years ago out of BOS, like CPH/SHH/DUB/FBU....

OH and as for NW and KL ending the alliance. I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT! They are too involved with each other to split up. A split up would ruin them both. They have integrated their operations too much to even think about splitting up.

NW was looking to be the launch customer for it, but I think it got shelved after 9-11.

This is the only thing I could find on the Boeing website about it.

I think it may heppen, but not as fast as originally planned. It would be nice though...

I think KLM /NWA alliance is about all traffic across the Atlantic. All direct flights from Europe to USA (there are lots) and their hundreds of connections across the continents are part of the KL/NWA deal irrespective if it is a blue or red tail. That's why the alliance is so successful and ahead of the pack...
Continental joining this is making it an even stronger.
Personally I have the feeling other alliances are a lot of flag waving, noise & advertising that tend to fall apart when the shit hits the fan …

kind regards

Hmm, why would NW fly to WAW? Why did u mention this city anyway, not PRG, BUD.....

That was one of the cities that I had recalled reading about. I don't know otherwise why I picked it other than that I am half Polish. Perhaps because the Detroit area does have a large Polish population and there are no direct flights to Poland otherwise.

#1 Northwest is not getting a 767-200 ER. They have not ordered one or have any talks about getting one. #2 They are not switching to an all airbus fleet. They have ordered more 747-400's 757-300's and 200's and plan on operating the 747-200 for many years to come.
#3 This will not be the end of the NWA/KLM alliance. It is as strong now as it ever has been before.
