Wow, today sure is a day to confirm old discussions on here. A good day, first NW officially announces its new Asia service, now AE announces new service out of LAX. All new routes (well LAX-PHX used to be mainline prior to 9/11), but now LAX-OAK, LAX-ABQ, LAX-SAC on ERJ-140's.

AMERICAN EAGLE TO LAUNCH REGIONAL JET SERVICE FROM LAX IN FEBRUARY 2002
LOS ANGELES – American Eagle, regional affiliate of American Airlines and the world’ s largest regional airline, announced today that it will launch regional jet service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) beginning in February 2002 with service to Albuquerque, Phoenix and Oakland.
"We are delighted to be able to provide our West Coast customers the added comfort and flexibility offered by our fleet's newest regional jets, the 44-seat Embraer ERJ-140," said Peter Bowler, Eagle's president. "Eagle has a long history of service with turboprop aircraft into LAX, and with a regional jet fleet of more than 100, it's long overdue that we brought this level of service to California, Arizona and New Mexico."
Eagle's initial three destinations will include Albuquerque, Phoenix and Oakland with LAX service expanding to Sacramento in early March at the same time Eagle will establish service between Phoenix and San Jose. In all, Eagle will be adding 19 RJ round-trip flights at LAX. March's four round-trip flights between Phoenix and San Jose will allow Narita, Japan, passengers to connect to Phoenix. The new jets will operate out of LAX Terminal 3 with jet-bridged service at each gate.
"We have had fantastic customer response to our RJ fleet in every market where they operate," said Bowler. "Over the past three years of deploying these new aircraft, our focus has been in Chicago where we have an all-RJ operation and in the Northeast where our all-RJ operations include New York's La Guardia and Raleigh/Durham. Bringing these jets to the West Coast provides us with the range to connect Los Angeles passengers with destinations Eagle previously has not served."
The ERJ-140 regional jets feature luxurious navy blue leather seats in a "one by two" seating arrangement, with one seat on the left of the aisle and two seats on the right. The jets also have a closet for hanging bags, large overhead bins and a spacious lavatory. Powered by two Rolls-Royce engines, the jets are among the quietest airplanes in the world and can cruise up to 530 miles per hour at 37,000 feet.
With a 268-aircraft fleet that includes more than 110 regional jets, American Eagle offers more than 1,600 daily flights to more than 130 cities throughout the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, Mexico and the Caribbean. Members of American’s AADVANTAGE frequent traveler program earn a minimum of 500 miles for every American Eagle flight.
American Eagle West Coast RJ service will be implemented as follows. (All times are Pacific Standard Time.)
