Oman Air Question

-Another recent post about the Oman Air 737NG order said that Oman Air will replace the A310 with the 737NG That means they will not be able to introduce long range services to Europe and Asia in the future.

-Are there any plans to introduce services to Europe and Eastern Asia

-Are Oman Air considering purchasing widebody aircaft. And if they do will it be Boeing or Airbus models?

-What are Oman Air's attitude towards Gulf Air and is there any real competition or do Oman and Gulf air coordinate schedules in a way that they don't compete

Hi Qatar,

WY has no plan whatsoever to fly either to Europe or Asia: these destinations are not part of the airline's plan, at least for the near future. One of the reasons is first that Gulf Air is providing these flights and second Oman Air is a small company.
At this stage, Oman Air is not interested in widebodies. They prefer to rather increase frequencies and open new destinations.

Oman Air replaced its 2 A320 by 2 A310s a few years ago (3 or 4, I don't remember) only because of the longer range provided by the latter. For instance, the A320s were sometimes a bit short of range to fly to Dhaka, depending on how much headwind they were getting. But the 310s' capacity is far too large for the company's needs. That's why Oman Air is replacing them with the B737NG. Range is good, fuel consumption as well: They are expecting to save about 50% on fuel with the new 737s.

Is there any co-operation or competition between WY and GF? This is the kind of question I cannot answer. As 25% of GF belongs to the omani government, we could expect some kind of co-operation. On another hand, WY is co-operating with EK (the main GF's competitor) on the DXB-MCT sector.

Can't remember if it has it been mentioned on the forum yet: Oman Air is leasing (wet) two ATR42s from Cimber Air starting in January. Not sure if these are Srs. -320s or Srs. -512s, though.
