Brisbane-Asia - Need Help To Choose Airlines~

Fri Jan 04, 2002 8:05 pm

Hi Everybody,

In June/July, I will be flying from Brisbane - Asia (Let me explain later) and I must find a possible/convenient/comfortable route to go with.

Here's my situation:
- My mother will leave a week before me
- I have never stopped over alone before, and am quite unsure of some things.

We are hoping to go to Taipei (Taiwan) first and travel to China with a group of my mothers friends (They are Australian and have opened a business in China)
If necessary, we are prepared to fly straight to Shanghai.

I have thought of basic routing (which includes Smile

A) Singapore Airlines
BNE-SIN-TPE and return, allowing the friends to look after air fare to and from Shanghai

B) Singapore Airlines
BNE-SIN-TPE-SIN-SHA-SIN-TPE Return
I don't think so, but if necessary and cheap

C) Qantas/Cathay Pacific/Eva Air
BNE-CNS-HKG Qantas
HKG-SHA Cathay/Dragonair
HKG-TPE Cathay
TPE-BNE Eva

D) EVA Air
BNE-TPE-BNE and allow friends to look after fare
This one is a little boring I think!

What do you think? Do you think there will be an alternative flight?
I am looking for cheapness also, and if you could tell me which one should be cheaper in this period, it would be greatly appreciated.

I will be formally visiting a travel agent, but my mother doesn't want to go too soon (I am anticipating and want some basic details)

Regards

Considered JAL? They're normally pretty cheap, reportedly have great food and you get a stopover or two on the way.

Okay so here:

SQ BNE-SIN then CX SIN-HKG then BR HKG-TPE. Sounds like good adventure.

What about TG via BKK?
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

What about Garuda

BNE-DPS 330 (I think)
DPS-TPE D10

Garuda offer competitive fares.

the cheapest way would be
Singapore Airlines 35/90 day ticket BNE-SIN-TPE return and then buy the TPE-SHA ticket in Taiwan.

Singapore Airlines would be around $1080+tax (as of now) BNE-TPE return

the cheapest ticket between TPE and SHA is now Philippine Airlines via Manila. They use 330s for the route... just out of interest, they (PR) use the same aircraft from TPE-MNL and MNL-SHA (like Air Macau via Macau) so you won't have to wait too long in the airport. They are around TW$13000-14500.

Hope this helps.

cheers

garuda offer cheap fairs for a reason!!!!!

i flew malaysian airlines from BNE - KUL, they were pretty good, ptv's not bad service and alright planes, i think the equip was a 777, not sure if they've changed it though

tg is also another good airline

personally i would go the one that had the most stop overs, more planes, more airports, more take offs and landings!

i also have flown cathay from bne to hong kong, they were the most uncomfortable seats i have ever been in, i am fairly tall 6"3 and i couldn't put my tray table flat cos of my legs

cheers, have a good time
regards

Me thinks QF, just look at your name  Smile

Anyway you get more airlines and more types  Smile

Transiting isnt that bad, if in doubt ask a Ground Agent

I think QF doesn't fly to Shanghai. I would also take a route which offer more stopovers and offers a B747/B777. Big grin

Just like Mr.BA said, Qantas doesn't fly to Shanghai.

And if you could choose your own flight path, fly SQ to Singapore, CX to Hong Kong and BA to Taipei!
And then fly BR to Hong Kong, Qantas, China Southern or Garuda to Singapore (I think the GA flight it a non-stop, yeh it's a non-stop) and then SQ to Singapore!

Don't ask me why 2 trips on SQ...probably i can't think of another airline that flies SIN-BNE except SQ and QF?

Best Regards

Malaysia Airlines 777 service into KUL would allow both of you to connect to TPE (which is operated by A330s and 747-400s) and you could purchase an open-jaw ticket to allow both of you to return directly from Shanghai (777 service) to BNE via KUL.

MAS will also throw in a free side-trip anywhere within Malaysia and Singapore - if you opt for their Stopover programme.

Thanks to everybody for the great responses!
I truly thank you for recommending so many different ways that I didn't even think of!
 Big thumbs up

I would like to confirm something:
Is it true that if I stick to one group e.g. star alliance or one world, I would get a cheaper all-round fare.
Because if this is necessary, I might actually take the Qantas alternative - though I am unsure of cost.

Marara: Yes, that's exactly why I thought so!

I might even consider MAS.
Please keep the suggestions coming as I am extremely uncertain at this point of time.

Best regards
