Charters Europe-Canada After C3000's Demise?

Sun Jan 27, 2002 9:27 pm

I am wondering about the fate of traditional seasonal flights between Canada and Europe that Canada 3000 and Air Transat operated for many years. Canada 3000 is gone and on the Air Transat website, I cannot find any flights to Europe after April 2002. I know that Skyservice will be doing a few LGW runs with the A319, AC has some seasonal routes and Martinair will offer such flights from Amsterdam - but for example the German market has literally disappeared. Or am I missing something ?

Hi.

I guarantee Air Transat will operate charters to Europe this summer.
From YMX, FRA will still be there, although it is doubtful about BSL, BOD and BRU.
From YYZ, I can`t really tell.
I would try www.exit.ca.

From the UK to Canada this Summer British Charter airlines have taken over the flights previously operated by C3000. In particular from Glasgow, Airtours are operating to Toronto, JMC Air are operting to Calgary and Vancouver. I think they are operating similar flights from other Uk airports. JMC using A330's and Airtours 767-300's and A330's. As far as I know Air Transat are operating there usual programs from Glasgow and the uK to Canada.

I was also looking for AT European summer flights, and I came to the conclusion that Transat hasn't published their summer timetable yet. I would imagine it will come out soon, for I'm looking at the YVR-FRA flight.

Whoa! SSV A319's to LGW....I highly doubt it!

Skyservice will probably add a 2nd 333 this summer now that C3 is gone.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Air Canada will return to Schiphol for the summer season.

Air Canada only flies from YYZ to AMS that leaves the whole westcoast with only Ait Transat and Martinair so far. This is indeed an interesting subject and may bring some new equipment to YYC and YVR.

Neil, where ya been?! The SSV 319 thing really is happening; from YHZ and YYT I believe! I think Rootsgirl has even confirmed it!

I would agree that Vacouver it's badly under served on European direct destinations with only three daily scheduled flights to London, Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Transat and JMC will probably add some more seats during the summer on the very same market UK and Germany. Possible charter destinations to and from YVR?
Paris, Rome, Zurich, Brussels ,Copenhagen, Vienna, Madrid, Athens, Istanbul, Moscow just to name a few.
I know that Belair had a weekly or so run on behalf of some tour operator from ZRH-YYC-YVR last summer. Wander if they are coming back?

Lots of room if you ask me in that brand sparkling new international terminal expansion underneath the Fairmont Airport Hotel! For some reason though we still have to fly over to Toronto in order to travel to the above destinations. I think that YVR Airport Authority should put up that "ON SALE NOW" sign and offer some real incentive to those interested to start up operations at this under capacity working airport.

Air Transat Summer shedule to FRA/SXF is planned to be as follows:

Wednesday
TS 263 FRA/YHZ/YYZ
Friday
TS 853 FRA/YEG/YVR
Saturday
TS 261 FRA/YMX/YYZ
TS 235 SXF/YYZ
Sunday
TS 267 FRA/YYZ
TS 873 FRA/YYC/YVR

There are rumors that TS is going to serve one more city in Germany. At this time unfortunately i´m not allowed to tell you which one.

Connector4you, small correction. YVR has 4 trans-Atlantics a day, since both BA and AC fly YVR-LHR. I do agree, they could use another 3-4 dailies.

Into YYC this year is Monarch twice a week, Air Tours once a week, the occasional JMC. There are also Air Canada to LHR and FRA. Balair fly here last summer, but no news yet if Belair will. Edelwiese(sp?) will be flying here this summer too.

I know that SkyService has it's A330 out on leases, when do they get them back?

Monarch and Air Tours are only winter flights. The question here is the summer season. Edelweiss would be most welcome here and Justplanes.com made some suggestions about them flying on western Canada a while ago. That doesn't cover all the destinations that C3 left vacant. It may be just replacing those Belair charters.

They used to fly to DUS in the past - why don't they go there anymore ?

With regards to YVR transatlantic capacity, let's not forget that many of the flights are operated by large aircraft. BA flies the 747-400 and will LH I believe for the summer season. KLM flies the 767-300 as does AC to LHR but KLM will probably upgrade their service for the summer and AC also flies 340's and 747's on the route. These are pretty big aircraft and fly you to the major destinations where you can connect throughout Europe. Maybe all YVR needs is another flight to like Paris or Manchester and that probably covers your needs. Besides charter company's can pick up the slack and offer better fares.
Oh, and also about those pics of YVR, that's the USA terminal and not the international terminal that can get quite busy when the Asian flights depart.
