AeroAirlines (estonia) Question

Tue Jan 29, 2002 8:52 pm

When will Aero Airlines begin operations? I was under the impression that they should have started operations in Dec.01. i noticed that their logo has been unveiled at http://www.aeroairlines.ee.

here's a translation of the estonian on the website:

"Welcome to the Aero Airlines home page.

Aero Airlines is a newly founded airline, based in Tallinn. Although we are a young concern, we have a history behind us, about which you will soon be able to read on these pages. The experience gained from history helps us, together with the supplementary knowledge we obtain from our largest shareholder Finnair, a Finnish airline with more than 70 years of history and experience gained from activity in Northern Europe.

The goal for Aero Airlines is to become the airline that integrates the EU with the Baltic Sea region. All our flights will code-share with Finnair, which will underpin our growth and development as well as Finnair's strong presence in the northern region of the EU.

At first you will gain access to our flights by buying a ticket from Finnair, although by beginning our own ticket sales through these pages and other media, we will hope to offer you something new..."

As others have pointed out, this project is now stalled. Estonia's too small for two major airlines, and Estonian Air is a good and well-established airline. Even without the events of September, this would be tough sledding. And Estonian Air has the same stated mission, of becoming the main connection to the Baltics and beyond, from the rest of Europe.

cheers

Are you sure that the project is on hold? I know that the personnel training project goes on. Just recently (during the Christmas) I met on a HEL-TLL flight two Estonian ladies who returned from F/A training.

Recent press-release (well, from October last year) from Finnair says, that their target is to become operational during February (at first TLL-HEL, later intra-Scandinavian)
