KLM unveils 'Orange Pride' Livery on 777-300ER

Remember this Photoshop from last year?

Well, it's now a reality! Only a few things are different on the reality version.

Love it! Never quite understood why Netherlands' national color is orange yet it's never been featured in the liveries on KLM or Transavia.

I am Dutch, and know the color of our Royal family is orange (as in the name) the use of orange is usually limited to big international events like the Dutch football team participating.

Strangely, the team is NOT in the EK football championship, so why now?

At first I thought it was strange it transitions back to blue, but its a nice looking special livery.

Looks great but I don't think I'll ever like the curve to the cheat line they introduced last year, just looks odd to me.

The Dutch flag would be a nice addition to the standard livery I think.

"Orange is the new blue" Interesting livery and interesting timing. Not sure if I like it. The original design, with the lion and the blue cheatline is much classier.

Testflight should be today above the Netherlands since this is the first -300ER reconfigured with the new Business- and Economy-class (all sorts of tests needed and a certification programme) and it hasn't flown since april 10th.

I'm fine if the Orange is a one-off, but I really like the Lion in the middle fuselage in the photoshop. Really nice touch that can be replicated on all their aircraft.

Probably one of the ugliest airplane liveries I've ever seen! KLM Royal Dutch Airlines found a way to make an extremely good looking airplane look ugly. :cry:

I love the fade from orange to blue. They should pain all their aircraft with some combination of these colors. Stands out and still looks great.

Paging United and Delta --- Come up with a scheme similar to this!

On a side note, could you imagine a United livery that faded from a very pretty blue (up front) to black (rear), then have an updated/modernized white globe on a black tail. I'd probably wet myself it'd look so good.

That could be it, but I think it's also supposed to be a reference to the iconic Dutch "Delft Blue".

I love it as a one-off, though I'm glad they stick to just one color for the rest of their fleet : ) That Dutch Flag cheatline is fabulous, though; I wouldn't mind seeing how that looks on the blue planes as well.

I send a tweet to KLM today and they said this orange livery will remain for as long as possible, at least two years. I hope to see this bird before it's gone, it's very beautiful and unique!!!

can they make that orange+blue as their permanent livery ? sure looks 300% hotter than the regular blue they've had for decades.

Those 2 are excellent colors to compliment each other (reminds me of AT&T merger with Cingular)

So as far as I can tell "Orange Pride" no one has a definitive reason to what its about? Why did they do it. Not, Oh its a national color with a maybe connotation. or It could be due to a football team. How about a real answer? WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF THIS LIVERY? Did KLM say anything?

Finally found the reasoafter 12 articles exposing the rollout and his good it looks. 1 of them finally said why!

KLM last year asked a question to its Twitter followers:

“Should we colour orange next year on King’s Day? #OrangeExperience”

Well, it seemed the public have spoken – and with 30,000 likes and 2,500 positive, KLM revealed and rolled out a Boeing 777-300ER – painted in Orange, combining it with the national colours of the Nederlands and traditional KLM Blue.

When the airline introduces it at an event, for gods sake tell the public what they said as a resin for it. Don't guess!

I don't believe for a second that anyone in 1920 thought about painting an aeroplane like a Delft Blue pot. If it's not the sky colour, then I bet that Tony Fokker or Albert Plesman had a barrel of blue paint left...

I agree with you on the orange bird, the cheatline is nice... Both EasyJet and the House of Orange, who paint their buses blue, know that orange tends to be cheapish.

I was expecting that. You don't repaint an aircraft again so soon after the Olympics. That would be costly. And this for sure makes for a looker, especially it is only 1 aircraft of the whole fleet.

With a bit of luck we can use it to fly to Russia for the WC-2018......

King's Day was in April, so that's hardly the ultimate answer. I guess this was timed for Euro 2016, and proceeded with to fly the Dutch Olympic team to Rio.
