The ground controllers have set a 48-hour strike for June 28-29, 2016. This will affect many people starting their summer holidays, as well as the large numbers who fly to Madrid every year for the upcoming gay pride celebrations. I wonder how this will affect traffic at MAD. Or, will they resolve their differences first, or will the government intervene?

Seems to be strikes on everywhere at the moment. France,Norway,Italy etc.. horrible if your caught up in it.

I am scheduled to work back MAD-PHL on the 28 . Hopefully it doesn't affect this . We shall see .

This is from an article about the last strikes by this group, December 22 and 27, 2015. My spanish-fluent wife translates this as, at that time, the strike didn't affect service because the government mandated that minimum services must be maintained, and at no less than 100%. So far, for this strike, there has been no such statement.
Could the regular air traffic controllers assume the duties of the ground control staff? As I understand it, at MAD, they used to do it some years ago.
