Nevada aviation thread

Let's see if we can get another thread going. There's plenty going on in Nevada aviation wise! This thread can cover LAS, RNO and any other airports in the state.

Happenings at LAS:

* Seven D Gates are being converted to international ones, connected to T3 by a new tram link. To be completed next year

* QR is planning DOH flights from January 2017. Major development if it comes to fruition. Who thinks it will happen?

* Norwegian is upping service to LAS with OSL starting 01NOV and LGW on 31OCT. LAS-LGW will be operated by the 787-9

* Condor introducing LAS-MUC next summer. This is actually a service resumption - DE flew this route starting in May 1999 but I don't know how long it lasted. http://lasvegassun.com/news/1999/may/04 ... om-munich/

Anyone know when the new control tower at LAS will open? Article below came out recently about the union demanding the cab be redesigned. The tower was expected to open late this year but maybe it will be delayed.

Seven in the northeast wing, six of which will handle widebodies. From the map it looks like gates D19, D20, D22, D24, D25 and D26.

Frontier is expanding its unofficial focus city at LAS yet again with flights to BNA and TPA starting 06SEP16. Frontier is the fastest growing airline here!

Thank you for posting the link to FlightPath, one of my favorite program for Nevada Aviation!

Is the cost of converting E gates solely for International passenger that much higher, that converting seven (7) D gates costing $50M the more cost efficient otpion?

I recently discovered Flightpath, it's a nice overview of all the projects that are currently underway.

Not sure why they're converting the gates rather than making all of T3 international. I will ask them on twitter.

Does anybody know how's RNO doing? Last I heard Thomas Cook was looking into transatlantic, but that was awhile ago.

Thomas Cook dropped the RNO route. Rumor here was that the lack of international gates doomed the deal. Right now, international flights park by the freight area and immigration is handled in a rather small portable building located on the ramp. It is used by Volaris. With all the money the airport authority has spent over the past few years, I'm a bit mystified why no international capable gate was built.

But WN has restored service to OAK and I'm hearing that B6 will add LGB.

Air Canada brought in an A330-300 today into LAS. First time I can recall AC bringing that
bird into LAS. Anybody know why? My guess it was an incentive flight for an Insurance company or something.
Plane is supposed to come back on 01JUL as well, at least the flight number AC590

Thomas Cook didn't come unfortunately, claiming the customs facility was inadequate and passengers would have to wait 3+ hours to clear customs.

Not sure but Sin City Spotters at Facebook might know.

In other news I asked McCarran on twitter about the D Gates conversion project a few days ago, no response. I've tweeted them a bit but lately they don't respond..... :(

Articles dated June 9. Appears this route will become a reality! I trust they will open reservations soon with two months to go till the expected launch in September.

This will become the second 787-9 route to Las Vegas, along with Norwegian's LGW-LAS to begin 31OCT.

Allegiant to launch 2x weekly flights to Destin/Fort Walton Beach

Flights start 07OCT. Fort Walton Beach is located on the Florida Panhandle.

Interesting addition! Is this Allegiant's longest route from LAS? I think Plattsburgh was at one point but that route was discontinued.
