Calgary Cargo News

Fri Feb 01, 2002 10:54 am

Calgary was announced as one of the best cargo cities in the world. It ranks with Hong Kong, Frankfurt, and Dubai. This was the first time in the history of the award that a North American city was selected.

In other news Cargolux will be increasing it's flights to twice weekly. The Calgary Airport Authority is also in negotiations with Cathay Pacific, JAL, and Korean for a nonstop cargo route to Asia.

That's awesome news! It's good to see that the airport is branching out in cargo, as well as passenger operations.
Someday, we'll look back at this, laugh nervously, and then change the subject.

I would like to nominate Sheraton Cavilier (sp?) at YYC as the cargo pilots favorite layover hotel....

Love Henry's and the indoor pool and waterslides....and the two spa's rock.

You can walk to Borders books and Starbucks...and the Sunridge mall.

And when they tell you to take the C train downtown...it's C train and not Sea train, you silly yank. I couldn't figure out why they would call it a Sea train in the middle of Canada. Those of you who are from YYC know what I'm talking about.

When they interviewed the Calgary Cargo manager he stated that part of the attraction to YYC was the turn around times. Cargolux is only here for 90 minutes. I'd make a point of staying clear of the taxiways...lol.

While I remember. Keep you eyes open for Air Canada 737-200 movement. They have announced some with the flying with Tango (Damn it, Air Canada is putting purple on my favorite plane!). Also there is an F-28 in Proud Wings livery still. I saw it on Wednesday departing of 16. I got a shot of it, but it was over my head and cloudy as hell.

Hey Kris how's that landing fee treating you? 12 bucks a pop, sounds like the airport wants us little guys out of there!

It would be good news to see some Asian carriers come in, even if it is for cargo!

And what is the adress of the spotting club? I gave my email to the guy, but I never got any notice about it. Thanks

C172Akula - same here. What is the address by the way?

12 bucks? I'd be out at Springbank in a second. Mind you Springbank is closer to me. I'm looking at starting flight lessons soon, ie. ground school. Where do you guys suggest I look?

The Recording is not on anymore.
I was at YYC today for a bit. Terrible day. I was hoping to shoot Mona and AIH But missed both planes cuz those two stupid ass planes came like 40 minutes early and caught me off guard as I was Shooting things off 28. I look over and see Mon just flare up. I later go to the Publick view place and ass I was going there I see AIH land.. Stupid ass Airline,  Angry I really wanted to shoot it. Its the 4th time I missed it and Im getting mad.
Eventually I snagged only 3 decent shots of it 3.5 hours later.

Unfortuneatly I was at YYC today and it was not so good.
I missed shooting Both MON and AIH because they came in early and that caught me off guard as I was shooting stuff on 28.
It was too late by the time I got to 34, so I was furious as those 2 were what I really wanted.
This is the 4th time that I missed out on AIH especially and I am not happy about it.  Angry
I did snag 3 decent shots of AIH later on..

Fallingeese if you are looking out at Springbank I would try Canadian Flight. Mind you I'm biased because I've done my training at Calgary flight, I also flew out there and they are a great bunch of pilots, and the Katana's they have there are great! You could also try the flying club, they have a bunch of 172's, a couple warriors, also they have a 1980 182 which I hear is nice, plus the multi. But look around first.

I've heard of Peacock, Doris over there did my IFR flight test. I thought for the most part that they just leased their a/c to Mount Royal, guess not though.

I second C172Akula with school choice. Though I too could be a little biased. That landing fee in kinda gay, thank god we don't do circuits there Big grin
