If the pictures of the A380 seen on the link are of that aircraft for sale, the registration is F-WWDD.

This is F-WWDD:

The year (2012), engines (RR), and number of seats (490) matches Malaysia Airlines (although they have 494 seats), who has been looking at selling or leasing off their A380s for a while now.

F-WWDD has GP engines now.

It's fake. F-WWDD is the Airbus testbed and has no seats installed.
What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived.

It's a third of the list price of a new build and around half of the actual sales price.

Why would the site allow a fake posting? I agree it's not going to be F-WWDD, but I think Polot might be on the mark with it being a Malaysia Airlines frame and we know they are actively marketing their A380s for re-sale or lease. Clearly the airframe is not actually in Palos Verdes, but the agent is and MH could be using third parties to market the frames in addition to their own efforts.

The photos are obviously not of the aircraft being sold- that is pretty common. They just found pictures of a white, unmarked A380 and used those.

So this company has a $150m+ asset for sale. They can't even manage some photoshopped photos of the actual aircraft?

if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck....

scam. Without a shadow of a doubt. Can anyone see Airbus using someone like this to market their planes? So it won't be the one in the pictures, which incidentally has now got the GP7200 engines fitted and not Trents.

Assuming it's a Malaysian frame, perhaps they don't want to directly advertise it? Especially if they have multiple agents shopping the frame around the world?

Seriously, this is the equivalent of the "For Sale at $xxxx" signs you see in the windshields of parked cars. Anyone serious enough to be interested in the frame will call that broker/agent and get all the information they need (including the current owner/operator) to make a decision on whether or not to consummate a sale.

For used frames? Absolutely. Boeing's Available Aircraft page for used Boeing airframes offered for direct sale lists the same basic information that A380 listing does (model, engine, serial number, MTOW, cycles and Year of Manufacture).

This is a multi million dollar aircraft. Not a junker someone is listing on Craigslist. Nobody buying this cares about the pictures attached to ad, they are just included to quickly catch your eye. They we'll get all the information they need after being vetted by the broker.

And yes using brokers is a very common way to sell used planes. From the same site you can see there are a bunch of A330s (photos also all white unmarked planes, uh oh!) also being sold by the same broker. MH is in the business of flying planes, not selling them. They give that job to brokers (likely more than one).

The advert states 4640 cycles and 14230 hours. Would that be reasonable use on a 2012 aircraft?

That's about 1100 cycles per year (give or take, depending on when in 2012 it started flying, and when in 2016 those numbers were taken), which comes to just around 3 per day. The average flight was just over 3 hours.

Sounds reasonable-ish.
I was raised by a cup of coffee.

Any potential acquirer of the MH frames is well aware of their availability and detail and who the brokers are offering them. Thus I see no reason for an ad. for MH frames.

Well I just don't see why a site that brokers used airplanes would allow people to just randomly post fake offerings - especially fake offerings from an actual aircraft brokerage firm. One would think they would be worried about legal liability.

An average flight-length of 3 hours doesn't sound very reasonable for long haul aircraft.

Well, unless the A380 was heavily used in short routes such as Dubai-Jedah

They are just not heavily used. Right now they have 6 A380s for a 2x KUL-LHR rotation. That is it, and I think has been so for almost a year now. I think HKG and CDG are the only other places they have sent the plane.

The hours/cycles assumed regular typical usage and that is just not the case.
