WN livery repaints discussion thread

Mon Jun 27, 2016 5:39 am

We have tried this a few times and it usually falls away. Even CX are on the board now!

One more attempt with a twist.

I have created a simple google site using an uploaded excel spread sheet.

https://sites.google.com/site/wnliveryrepaints/home [NOW REMOVED].

Select the next page, "THE LISTS" to access the details in the spread sheet at the bottom.

Email updates directly to wnliverylists@gmail.com

I am sure that there is much to add to these current lists and welcome all additions, deletions and corrections.
Maybe we can get to the end of the repaints with this as an ongoing tool.

SEE BELOW - suggestion for a better site has been actioned.

Nice job and thank you for putting this together. I find myself often wondering where WN is at in the repaint process.

Sadly one new repaint is not on the list. That would be a 300 series N355SW which inexplicably normally intelligent SWA painted and then retired the a/c!!! It was painted 6 months before it was retired--what a waste...

Well, AA has a few 763's and most likely a few 757's in their new and expensive livery

Mid July. Sometimes these things end up getting moved around.

According to my records, the following 737-700 aircraft are also in the Heart livery, in addition to those accounted for already:

N463WN
N729SW
N736SA
N737JW
N745SW
N746SW
N747SA
N751SW
N757LV
N758SW
N763SW
N784SW
N934WN
N935WN

Also, the following aircraft have had a 10-day layover at Spokane (KGEG) recently, but I have not confirmed that they have been repainted:

N748SW
N932WN (which I might have been able to confirm if the clouds had not been in the way today)

The primary location for Southwest to have their fleet repainted seems to be the aforementioned Geiger Field; does anybody know if there are any other locations where the work is occurring?

Thanks justplanesmart - added to the lists.

N669SW has retired, was in regular livery, reduced fleet size by 1 frame.

N369WN is due to have gone after the weekend - and is in the Heart livery.

I second this. I appreciate anyone who goes to the effort of tracking things like this, and I was even asking not too long ago about WN's repaint progress, so this is nice to see. But the Google Docs format is so much easier to read than this setup. The people who track the UA fleet do an excellent job of what plane is painted what, and what to expect on board. I dare say it's a better fleet resource than what's on UA's website!

I have attempted to publish as a google sheet - same information, maybe easier to read.

I am not experienced in this field.

New deliveries N8691A and N8692F added to list.

Regrettably, N369SW has ceased operations, so a case of two steps forward and then one step back.

3 other 737-300 retirements occurred plus 665 due to retire on 24th July.

Only the google sheets lists operates: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0

15 classic retirements through the end of September. The -500's start going away at the rate of one a day starting September 1st with 520SW being the last to leave on September 9th.

If you want to ride in one of the few remaining 500's, you better act fast.

Photo shows N445WN in Heart livery.

776 is N776WN [not SW].

Sadly one new repaint is not on the list. That would be a 300 series N355SW which inexplicably normally intelligent SWA painted and then retired the a/c!!! It was painted 6 months before it was retired--what a waste...

Not just one!

In the list of retirements is repainted N369SW due to finish on 5th of July.

Wow what were they thinking!!!

i believe if the airline is wanting to store them they repaint them to basically preserve them from further corrosion and what have you.

Not in this case as no 300's being retired are being "stored" for sale---they are all going to be cut up hence my post on why were some of them painted in the new color scheme only to be retired in a few months? The answer of course is that SWA did not coordinate the painting schedule with the retirements.

Two additions : 738 - N8698B & import 737 - N7881A.

All 737-500 now retired.

+ HEART SEATS INSTALLED ON SOME 83** SERIES -800s

So they ARE retrofitting the evolve -800s with the heart interior? Because in the press release they kinda left it open. Retrofitting the 83** SERIES -800s makes sense because those are the ETOPS -800s. Hearing about 8600 is interesting. Are there any other Heart retrofitted aircraft?

^^ All of the 83XX planes will get them and either 8600 thru 8604 or 8605,I think.

The rest of the -800 fleet is TBD.

As a reminder, 8687 and after are Heart interiors. The next set of -800s will be 85XX

The way I understood it, 20 or so 800s would be donating their seats to the used 700s that are pending conversion, and those 800s would be getting the new sling type true slimlines. They should also be getting the new cart-less rear galley. Other than the lack of an L1 galley, they should be indistinguishable from the fresh deliveries.

Yes, 29 -800s are donating their seats for the used -700s coming into the fleet and those 29 are getting the Heart seats. As I said, 83XX planes and 8600-8604.

However I think they are ONLY getting the seats, no galley changes.

By my math, 114 -800s will have Heart seats and 82 will have Evolve seats at the end of -800 deliveries, not counting any options or further retrofits.

Do you know if the aircraft being retired as well as the a/c that were damaged at Nashville and Baltimore that went through the Evolve program are donating their seats to the used 700's?

A/C 649 (BNA) had the EVOLVE seats, A/C 368 (BWI) did not.

From what I understand the Galley retrofits are still uncertain. This is also the first I've heard about those -800s donating their seats for the used -700s.

How many of the used -700s are left to enter into service of the current inventory? Also, are there going to be more purchases or have they finished with that program?

My list only counts 9: LN817,832,877,740,947,1812,1763,1802 and 2260 although I might be wrong as well :)

N8501V was delivered today, just flew BFI-PAE for modifications and Split Scimitar Installation

And line #975 is going to SWA---that is the difference in our two numbers

But it has not been transferred yet, right? Planespotters.net still lists 10 73G to be transferred to SWA including 8 ex-AR frames and 2 ex-CZ aircraft

Technically it may not be transferred yet formally but SWA is going to get it and my source is ATDB which is a subscription service and very reliable when my inside WN sources do not know. What I find interesting is that WN has not cut any deals for other used 700's in quite some time. A couple of explanations would be they want to get the pilot deal done or may be considering more 800's new or used but one thing is for certain is that they need a bunch of a/c in the next year to replace the 94 Classics which (sadly) get parked by Oct 2017
