I was wondering if we could pool an updated definitive list of all current domestic widebodies, over the last few months, the situation has changed a bit, and I recently booked IAH-DEN on a 787, so I'll start with that. I know that they now also have EWR-LAX but I am unsure about other UA 787 LAX/SFO flights as I wasn't able to find any. AA also switched ORD-DFW to ORD-LAX. I am especially curious to see what DL is up to. They have an A330 from JFK to LAX, but where is that mythical 77L from ATL to LAX? All contributations appreciated, Thanks!

Wasn't aware AA did any domestic flights with their biggest birds

Supposedly UA is only temporarily running widebodies on p.s. routes (LAX/SFO-EWR), so let's see how many stick around. Perhaps some of the converted 777s will end up there on a more permanent basis. Doubt we'll see too many LAX-SFO wide body flights outside of occasional spare transfers. DL has the domestic 767s for ATL-LAX, perhaps domestic wide body flying is the one area where UA has an edge over DL and AA for now, especially when it comes to flatbed seats as opposed to recliners. It would be nice to see DL and AA expand flat seat products to non-SFO/LAX-NYC markets, more hub to hub a la AA LAX-MIA.

Nice list. It's fairly comprehensive, and even if we include other places like HI it doesn't leave out much since AA, DL and UA have all reduced their wide body flying to HI and now regulary send 738s/321s there.

It'll be interesting to see what happens there once HA is done coverting their wide bodies to flat beds, my prediction is that they'll really kick some tail there in the markets they serve, perhaps even forcing the others to upgauge once more.

@sooner787 - Nice change for your client. More people on domestic U.S. trips should be able to experience flat bed seating. Makes sense given the length of some domestic trips. Time for the U.S. to catch up with Asia, the Middle East and parts of Latin America ;- )

The DL JFK/PDX seems kind of odd...you would think they would send it to SEA to connect to all the Asia traffic, plus mail and cargo downstairs. All their other domestic widebodies are intra hub or from hubs to major international points of entry/business destinations .As an FYI... for a month from mid May to mid June UA was running a 767-400 EWR/MCO and IAD/MCO twice a week as well.

Nice catch, I completely forgot about the MIA-LAX 77W, I have flown out of TPA to MIA and flew this once actually. Also, what about foreign/Canada domestic widebodies? I believe AC flies a 787 from YYZ to YVR, CX flies JFK-YVR, and QF flies LAX-JFK. Does anybody know if it's possible to book QF domestic or is it still blocked off? If not, are there any domestic 744? I know UA had some running ORD-SFO not too long ago, although I can't confirm this.

Yes - this is correct. The airplane keeps a tight schedule, arriving at PDX from NRT at 9am, departing for JFK at 10:30, arriving JFK at 6:45, and then lately it has been doing a late Europe outbound from JFK like AGP around 10pm local.

At NRT, the only other 767-300ER coming in from the east is the late HNL. So they probably think it makes more sense from a reliability perspective to have multiple ways to route 763s through NRT, and the obvious way to do that is pull a European airplane, fly it to PDX, and then feed NRT that way.

I saw the AC 787 sitting at the gate at EWR a week or so ago waiting to do the EWR-YVR flight.

Yeah, speaking of odd use of equipment, there is the MIA-MCO 763 shuttle which is my personal favorite! And at TPA, there is only one *domestic widebody which is the AC Rouge 763 (I say domestic because it is pre cleared in YYZ and arrives at the domestic DL terminal, but it's not a true domestic, and seasonal at that)

I was checking ANC out on Flightaware the other day and on that particular day DL was running a 763 from ANC to ATL as a red eye.

DL ATL-LAX was a long time 77L route (took it back in 2009) but now all I'm seeing are multiple 763s.

Took an A333 on LAX-MSP back in February. That was pretty cool

Using EWR as my main hub its nice to see more widebodies. The EWR-YVR AC 788 surprised me quite a bit. The flight was previously operated by an A319, so a pretty big change. Im actually flying on the UA 787-9 on July 9 EWR-LAX and have a 777-200 on the way back to EWR, i'm looking forward to it!

Granted EWR-YVR has been a 319 for many years (I want to say 10 plus years) so maybe they've built it up that a 787 makes sense for the summer

A rather easy way to find UA wide body flights is to take a look at the cargo schedule. It lists both international and domestic flights but its easy enough to find what you are looking for.

The QF LAX-JFK-LAX turn is only available to passengers arriving in or departing from the USA on a QF or AA flight from or to Australia on the same itinerary, and I don't expect that will ever change unless US law changes dramatically.

Also, should this thread not be titled "US domestic widebodies"? After all, I did think that there were other countries in the world with domestic aviation markets.
Or, if not, perhaps somebody could provide an update on widebodies being used on UK domestic services, as well as intra-Europe.

Man I remember the days when I flew MCO-ATL on the 777 and Tristar! I flew it so many times on short hops with friends for a quick, and fun weekend trip, and now you have to fly all the way to SYD, NRT, or JNB! Today MCO is served by the "New, state of the art Delta A321. " Well I'd rather have a 777 because unfortunately, the Tristar isn't coming back. There's nothing like a GE90 growl to wake you up on a fresh Saturday morning!

The 763 that flies PDX-NRT continues on to NRT-SIN, RONs in SIN, and then heads back to NRT -> PDX -> JFK, and Europe. The 763s that fly NRT-HNL are a different configuration (slightly more dense), and they rotate through the rest of the system via LAX and JFK, as well as rotating with NRT-TPE, NRT-BKK, and other HNL-Japan routes.

So a guy says 'maybe' its a 787 for summer and thus means he doesn't know a thing about New York. What rodent crawled up your ass today. Never seen someone be such a jerk for such a nonexistent reason. Get a life.

Unless it's replaced in the last year, what about the PDX-ATL 767s by DL?

DL used to send the 77L on ATL-LAX to get the plane in position for LAX-SYD. I believe that 777 now comes in from NRT. Similarly, the 763 that used to ply ATL-PDX-NRT is now routed JFK-PDX-NRT.

Is 8808 a regular scheduled flight ? sounds like one of those military/sports charters ...

It's possible, but it's hub to hub which makes me skeptical, charters are usually to some special destination

LX operate the 77W on one of their 9 daily ZRH-GVA-ZRH rotations. At 125 nm that must be one of the shortest 777 flights

Rumor has it that there's a 77W that operates YYZ-LAX in the summer season, although I can't seem to find it. It did operate consistently last summer though so who knows.

Also, transborder is included if it's close enough, hence this ^^ and also why I included CX JFK-YVR earlier.
