Air Canada: YYZ-GIG zeroed out

Sat Jul 02, 2016 2:07 am

Last YYZ-GIG flight showing availability is on October 7th, 2016. It seems the route has been cancelled.

Probably the Canadians realized that Rio has nothing to offer.
Not surprised.

i wonder how this route lasted untill now. unlike their profitable YYZ-GRU flight the GIG had never been a hugh money maker.
i also wonder how their weird YUL-DEN flight is doing...
for most people the sky is the limit. for those who love aviation, the sky is home...

Well, all you hear about Brazil is bad. A government that is in turmoil, huge crime problem, police looking like soldier in a war zone, pollution, a virus, and a Olympic that they may not be ready for.

True, Brazil really offers nothing good right now. Air Canada is not the only carrier to cut service to Brazil. At some point, BA was rumoured to cut flights to Brazil. Air France cut Brasilia. Delta cut Brasilia from Atlanta and then Orlando as well too.

the level of a.net has gone downhill.... sad to see once a great forum become like facebook like in all senses... and this user is the example of the decadence of the forum... "why there arent threeholers?" "ac dropped GIG because Rio has nothing to offer to canadinans"... lol

It's clear for anyone minimally informed about Brazil, that the country is suffering a huge political and economic crisis, including the fact that has become pretty expensive for Brazilians to travel abroad, and this affects air links. Lots of services have been cut, but for some reason,secondary cities have suffered more than GRU and GIG.

"This Rio has nothing to add to canadians" is so idiotic that shows what the level the "new a.net" has now. I miss the days Brazilians gave good contribution about Brazilian aviation here. Coiote is still trying to keep us informed though.

The word internally is that the route was going to Rouge. But, I don't see that reflected in advanced booking ... either for the winter, or next summer season.

Marketing planners may well have decided that the downturn in the Brasilian economy is such that continuing the route is unfeasible.

This is just a blip. Brasil was a very strong market in the past and they will be in the futur

Air Canada launched the route too late, when the Brazilian economy was already going downhill. The route was kept, because of the hope that eTA for Brazilians would turn it around, but it seems that Trudeau will not go through with Harper's plan.

Oh yes, and the world is full of good news, isn't it?

The US has Trump, no more words needed;
Europe has this refugee crisis and brexit turning everything upside down;
China is full of slave workforce and a lot of other problems too...

Really, the world is not perfect and everybody knows, and Brazil is indeed having a bad time, but there are a lot of good things about this and every other country and the least you could do is keep your mouth shut if you don't have anything good to say, and go study a bit.

Ops, sorry, this was supposed to be an aviation forum... never mind the above.

If it weren't for Zika, it might have been a good idea to revitalize the route by Rouging it. Alas...

Rio is such a mess right now.

After the Olympics, I suspect you will see an exodus of airlines out of there. Sad.

The press and media tend to be negative and people enjoy bad news so I am not surprised that Brasil is being dumped on right now. Brasil is a great country that will eventually rebound.
