One of the 2 Bell 525 Relentless Prototypes crashed yesterday killing both people on board.
Sad day for Bell and for the families.

As a fatal crash on a promising new development program, I'm a bit surprised this isn't getting more attention. It's a very saddening reminder that testing new aircraft is still a hazardous job.
I noticed what looked like soot on the powerlines visible in some of the photos, but some articles are quoting responders as saying they don't believe the helicopter hit the lines, and that a large part of the tail boom was a significant distance away from most of the debris.

The power company says there was no interruption of power transmission, and there is no evidence the helicopter struck the power lines. The crash is near the lines though and there was a large fire which likely put soot on the lines.
There was a second helicopter - a chase / observer - in formation with the one which crashed.
Sad day, but the site was closed to the public and media quickly, a temporary TFR closed the airspace, so little news even locally here in Dallas.

The second helicopter should be able to determine if the power lines played a part pretty quick assuming they were not distracted.
RIP the crew.
This is a bit of bad news for the large helicopter market especially since the EC225's seems to be grounded for main gear box issues.
