Etihad A340s - will any of the -600s see the new colours?

Thu Jul 14, 2016 10:00 am

As some people may be aware, Etihad seem to be in the process of disposing of their A340-500s with A6-EHA to the Italian Air Force and A6-EHC recently withdrawn. It makes me think Etihad are going to dispose of all of their A340s, in favour of a mainly 777/787/A330 mix - along with a number of A380s but not anywhere near as many as Emirates. Are the A330s a long term prospect? I see Etihad as having a mainly 777/787 (Boeing) mix in time to come, with a compliment of A380s.

Would I be correct in saying that the A340s are unlikely to see the new "Facets of Abu Dhabi" colour scheme? Or at least the -500s won't. Anyone please feel free to correct me.

Of course a number of 777s and some A330s are yet to receive the new colours, but I know this takes time. When large fleet numbers are involved, operators often wait until heavy checks are due before repainting - unless their is some important promotion.

Thanks all.

They also have a considerable amount of A350s on order. The A330s are relatively new with the A332 generally being what they start new routes with and upguage as necessary. I don't think the A340s will remain long term once the A350s start to arrive.

EY A340s are scheduled to leave the fleet by the end of 2017. I'm pretty sure EY's not going to paint their A346 in new colours just for one-more-year usage. Would be highly appreciated if they paint 346 though!

Considering they'll be retired next year or so, I higly doubt that. Although it would be nice.

In the range of US$200,000 to paint the thing.

Money down the toilet really. I'd question their financial interests if they did considering they are not highly profitable.

Has EY painted any of their 77L's in the new livery yet?
