Emirates at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW)

Sat Jul 16, 2016 3:31 am

Is Emirates really doing well at SAW? The airline might be cutting the route by Augest.

They are cutting it. It was zeroed out already. idk if it was they were doing bad because it was rumored they were short cabin crew.

They were probably struggling on the route given that fewer people are visiting Turkey, and TK is also competing on the SAW route, as well as EY from AUH.

In addition to the load factor the security issues in Istanbul airports, it is obvious passengers will have doubt travelling there.

It seems quite "normal" to me for EK cutting this route. Their smallest plane in the fleet is the 332 with a generous first class cabin. Their competitors (mainly TK; but also reinforced by QR & EY for nearby destinations) fly with narrow bodies with around 160 pax cabins.

SAW is located on the Asian side of the town and serves more for LCC pax and locals for overseas destinations. Typical tourists from UAE/Dubai prefer to land at IST (the bigger airport on the European side) and accomodate/visit/shop on the European side. Almost no nothing yet as a tourist attraction (for Arabs as well as non-Arabs) on the Asian side: just a few malls for shopping.

Perhaps it's got to do more with frequent terrorist events and not a lack of shopping malls.

In my opinion, definitely not!... If your hypothesis was correct, then EK would also quit or minimise their IST flights. I am born is Istanbul, I have been kiving in Istanbul for the last 64 years and I well know the town and its attractive sides esp. for the tourists, including Arab tourists.

QR is serving both airports, "happilly". EY has recently started serving SAW, following an aircraft upgrade for IST. But both QR & EY are flyşng t SAW with narrowbodies.... ;)
