Delta 767-300ER Fleet

Sat Jul 16, 2016 8:46 pm

Flew on a DL 767-300ER from EWR to CDG last month (an ex-Gulf Air bird, built in 1991). Interiors were upgraded and a nice ride, but the planes are looking old. What will Delta replace these jets with eventually? A330's? 787's?

25 339s are on order that will start replacing the 763 fleet. The 787 order(18 -8s) is very flexible, IMO if DL needs the capacity in 2020 or wants to replace more 763s they will take them. If not convert them into 737s.

I expect the 76Gs will be some of the first to go. Small sub fleet and the CF6s on them are CF6-80C2B6s and not CF6-80C2B6Fs like the rest of the CF6 fleet.

What exactly looked old? Everytime I have been on one they're immaculate.

No, you're right. The plane I was on looked well maintained and tidy and clean. There was some yellowing on the panels and some Delta maintenance tape here and there, but nothing out of place. The paint on the wing though was visibly peeling and had what looked like crusted clumps, closer to the cabin wall (I was sitting right on the wing). That said, having flown on the AA, UA, and DL 763's, these are among the very best looking ones of the big 3 US carriers. Have flown on the LAN (now LATAM) 767-300ER's and they are mostly newer builds and look really great inside, but these were quite ok.

That is strange because the 76G's were the last to get the retrofit. Practically everything was replaced in the interior. PSU's, ceiling panels and sidewalls, galleys and some lavatories were all replaced.

Delta made an order with Airbus for A330-9's to replace or start replacing the 767-300's. They are also at the tail end of there current order of A330-300 242t's , which is also replacing the 767. In addition, they are replacing the 747's with A350-900's. They will have to make additional order to cover the amount of 767's they currently have.

Not really. the 767s leaving the fleet currently are domestic non-ER ones that are being replaced by newly delivered 739ERs. The first 763ERs to leave the fleet will be the 6 ex-Oman Air starting in 2019 when the first A339s arrive.

Oman Air never operated 767s.

A bit of a contradiction - "The interiors were upgraded but the planes are looking a little old...?"

I've been on 1998 & 1991 delivered DL 763ER. I can't tell the difference with the upgrades aside a few differences with regards to exit door configurations.
