DL A330 in PHX this November

Mon Jul 18, 2016 10:45 pm

In booking a flight this November on DL, I noticed they are running 1 A330 rotation between ATL and PHX. It appears it operates between 11/2 and 11/28. I hope this stays, as it will be my first ride on DL's 330 AND in a lie-flat seat! :)

I also noticed the 739 is no longer on the ATL/PHX schedule in November. It appears ATL/PHX is going all 757 (-200 and -300). Any thoughts on why the shift from 739 to the 757?

Thanks!

Now you made me look up my flights in February have both switched from a 739 to a 321 and the 330 is still listed.

I'll go with the expectation they can sell 19 more seats (752) and 54 (753) more seats than on the 739.

Good catch on this one! I see it is an 11am departure out of ATL, so they could rotate either the EZE or the HNL airplane onto the domestic flight. The return arrives in ATL at 7:50pm, which is pretty late to rotate onto Europe in the slow norther winter season - since FCO and the AMS trips leave to early, and I think the 764 and 763 have most of the other Europe trips. There is probably enough slack in the fleet that the airplane will just sit overnight and then cover basically any long haul the next day.

I wish I had a PHX trip on my horizon!

As of Dec 2, the DL A330 is still here in Phx. Flew in on AA and couldn't believe my eyes. US/AA had one here briefly, I'm glad to see at least someone can justify a twin aisle here besides BA and Hawaiian. Ok, and the occasional AA B767...

It also appears to be on the schedule in March.

With the higher heat we have been having I'd say they don't want to drive the 739 to Atlanta when they can fly with the A321. Mind you the 11489 foot runway the 739 can clear the runway. Sorry could not resist.

Has there been DL A321 service to phx yet? AS and UA have many 739 service every day.

As the A330s (and 764s) are getting deployed into some of the domestic flying, the December schedule shows a marked drop in domestic 763 activity. Cities on the west coast that have traditionally seen 763 service to ATL during the winter months (i.e. LAS, LAX, PHX, SAN, SFO, SLC and SEA), now have none. The recent retirement of several domestic 767-300s, is clearly showing on the new winter schedule.

On 12/3 DL had 4 739ER departures from PHX. 2 each to ATL and MSP.

AS and UA have multiple 739 flights daily. AA's largest mainline type out of PHX is the A321.

I believe Saturday, December 17 will have the first scheduled DL A321 flights out of PHX. On that day, DL 1899 is scheduled as an A321.

Looking at the schedule I see that on the next day, Sunday, December 18 the following A321 departures are scheduled from PHX:

DL 1899 PHX - ATL
DL 1546 PHX - ATL

On that day the other flights PHX - ATL are scheduled as follows:

DL 1556 PHX - ATL (757-200)
DL 2590 PHX - ATL (737-900ER)
DL 1772 PHX - ATL (A330-300)
DL 2579 PHX - ATL (737-900ER)

Going back to the original topic, it seems that DL 1772 is scheduled as an A330-300 most days except for Saturdays and Christmas and New Years Day all the way until March 31. On April 1, the route goes to a 757-300.

Wish I could have snapped a pic of one since PHX is the big airport near me. One of my friends actually got to fly on the A330 to ATL in delta one! It looks amazing!!

In addition to PHX, ATL-SLC is also getting A330-300 service this winter. The plane routes ATL-SLC-HNL.
