UA 777-300er and new Polaris routes?

I have been thinking, UA is taking delivery on their new 777-300ER in December and will start service in early 2017. They showcased their new Polaris Business Class that looks really nice and should be very competitive with other airlines. They cannot replace the Sub- UA 777 and 767 premium cabins fast enough! In the past they said that the 777-300ER will be going to EWR. However, UA seems to want to showcase Polaris first at ORD. If a 777-300ER were to go to ORD I am thinking that they would use it for ORD-HKG. For EWR, I am thinking they would use it for EWR-HKG, EWR-TLV, EWR-DEL and EWR-BOM?

They need them urgently... Really a disgrace to be flying the 744's now without even a personal TV.

I recently flew their 747-400 to Hong Kong - While they don't have private TV's in coach, the streaming to personal device was brilliant, fast, and easy. The international WiFi was surprisingly very quick to download and upload. It was on 100% of the time on the way there, even though it was supposed to drop off over China - it didn't. The last flight I had international WiFi on was LH IAD-FRA on their 747-8i. It was super slow, United's was much better. On the return, we lost Wifi intermittently over the Pacific. Routed just to the east of Japan and straight across. I do feel I reached the end of Facebook on that trip over - 14 hours and there was really nothing left to read from my friends, but I was able to edit and upload photos to my website and Facebook. Also, I was able to iMessage my friend the entire way who was flying AA DFW-HKG. Her flight was delayed, so I tracked her flight on Flightradar24, and she ended up being right behind us and landed right after we did. We were on approach at the same time. The experience was rather cool. My grandmother was in hospice before she died at the time, she had ALS. She was able to text me clear as day, even though she couldn't speak. She would text me along the way, and I so appreciate being able to have that experience.

Can anyone provide information to the first 777-300ER routes (international)? Doing a trip in February, would be nice to get on this bird in the new polaris class.

The first 777-300 comes in December. Does anyone know how many show up in 2017? United will be showcase these planes at all there hubs eventually.

Personal TV's, I see that a lot of airlines are deleting these. People have there own devices now.

Who's ditching? And if so it feels more like a cost reduction for the airlines then a service to the passenger
And personally I like the PTV's over having to bring your own device.There is usually more than just movies and series to watch on them.
Internet connection is also still not 100% reliable in the air.

I think that they will go for things like LHR or CDG first. Maybe they'll re-upgrade SYD as well.

I would agree on LHR but I very much doubt it will go to CDG early doors but I stand to be corrected.

They are supposed to go to EWR first, followed by SFO. No idea which routes but I'd wager long haul with lots of pax EWR-TLV/NRT/LHR/PVG/BOM etc.

You'd be quite disappointed flying domestically with UA as most of the 737s don't have anything either except "streaming" which is pathetic.

Really? Last time I checked, DL & AA are taking delivery of new aircraft with AVOD, and UA isn't!

UAs streaming entertainment is not bad and while it is not as "sexy" as a TV in seat, it is still great for entertainment. AA just did a refit of all of their A319s and didnt go with PTVs, so must not be pivotal to the game plan to have TVs. InSeat power is the best feature, IMO.

On the international side, I agree, that is where UA needs to get their game stepped up. Albeit their International WIFI gets great reviews.

My last several intercontinental flights with airlines that do feature AVOD, i'd estimate of 1/2 I saw in my cabin were using it. Most people have tablets or laptops and can get the product they really want. If flying without a personal TV is a disgrace to you, try something revolutionary: read a book.

Is UA installing the POLARIS product on its existing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet? The original UA press release announcing the POLARIS product last month make no mention of retrofitting their existing Dreamliner fleet:

"The United Polaris business class seat will first take flight in December on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and subsequently on Boeing 787-10 and Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, as well as on Boeing 767-300 and 777-200 retrofits."

At least nine will deliver in early '17... Four more were ordered and may also arrive next year.

Back to the actual topic, I've read the 777-300ER will be used on some routes out of Newark (i.e. BOM, DEL, HKG, TLV) and from ORD to HKG, PEK, and PVG. Each of these routes though I think require 2 frames, so perhaps not all will see it. As for the 787-8/9 fleet, they will also get the Polaris product but again, believe they are among the last of the wide body fleet to get them as these are all new frames. Most of the 777-200/ER fleet will get them, except for the domestic high density and Hawaii market fleet. The 767-400's will get them. The -300's I have also read will. The 757 will not.

All 14 will be delivered by the end of 2017. First delivery in Dec 16, will enter service in Jan 2017. Will be flying hub-hub domestic routes for several weeks before being assigned the first international route. I'd bet no international until 3 frames are on property.

Nice, It will be nice to see it visit IAH on some of these hub to hub runs. It would be nice to see it fly an IAH intl route, maybe NRT. But we will see once she enters service.

Yes, as well as on the 764. They're not priority though. First they will do the above, and the other planes will come later, towards the end of the retrofit. Think that if they don't refit them, what will they do? Retire them? The 76's maybe, but the Dreamliners are brand spankin' new. They'll be refitted towards the end of the 3-year process. But I assume future deliveries will have the Polaris.

The only public information UA has made was months ago that the 77W would be based out of EWR. However that was before UA ordered an additional 4 bringing the total 77W order to 14. From what I've heard at WHQ is both ORD and EWR will see the 77W's early on. My next statement is all rumor just things I hear while at work; the rumor is 77W will be placed on ORD-HKG, EWR-HKG, EWR-DEL, and EWR-BOM for two reason UA needs additional capacity and to resolve weight restrictions that plague these routes on a daily basis. The aircraft could (and I'm stressing could) also show up on ORD-NRT, EWR-TLV, and EWR-PVG. These routes supposedly on the list because they could use additional capacity which the 77W would provide. All of this is like I said before is just rumor but I do think is it s say bet to say the 77W will be on critical weight restricted Asian routes out of ORD and EWR.

Neither LHR or CDG are candidates for the 77W. UA just announced starting this winter season and continuing into 2017 they would be adjusting capacity to the UK to account for the continued weakness they are seeing in demand for travel to/from the UK. Although UA will maintain 17 daily flights (16 during the winter season) UA will be utilizing smaller aircraft on routes out of EWR and IAD which means more 767's and 757's.
UA will not place the 77W on LHR routes from ORD, EWR, or IAD. Also except for on websites like this there has been no mention of UA using the 77W from their SFO hub.

Seems like a solid plan addressing the weight restricted routes first.

The same way we can track the manufacture of aircraft on the line, I presume however, we can't see how fast the manufacturer is pumping out Polaris seats?

I wonder how long it takes to make and deliver those units?

I think if Mr Munoz was Jennie, he'd blink and covert the whole wide body fleet overnight!

so if the 77W is going to be based out of EWR it won't be replacing the 744. I presume the displaced 772s from EWR will cover 744 routes then? Or does the labor agreement even allow legacy CO equipment to operate legacy UA routes?
