So hearing from a reliable source this schedule will not have anything other than normal seasonal changes and new flight allocations for SNA airport.

Rumors at SNA is that WN losing 6 slots that the county is giving out to possible 2 new airlines.
Another Rumor is AS and DL have both requested more seats to grow SNA.

Flyguy

Is this the same reliable source who said in the previous extension there would be a big buildup at BNA? If so your reliable source's credibility isn't worth much.

Not sure what this could signify, but I just saw a TV commercial for Southwest in Chicago promoting nonstop international service from MDW. Aside from the existing CUN, MBJ, and PUJ, the ad also showed BZE and PVR as nonstop cities.
Using common knowledge to save the day!

Timing varies. I think it depends on what part of the year they are releasing. Example: Previous to tomorrow's release, the timing was about 6 weeks but prior to that was a few months.

i think they need to compete with united in Chicago again with Dulles to midway seems to me there's more connecting options then Atlanta ......?? i was on the IAD -MDW route a few times that was always busy. and maybe more coast to coast selection from Dulles. I also think they need to expand there gates at Dulles or something to compete with united and Frontier!

I don't think WN often announces things the day before the schedule load. How would they sell tickets on the newly announced flight if the new schedule isn't loaded yet?

Score me a point. The announcement was IND-SEA on AS, not WN.

This is a good route for IND. And I am thrilled it isn't a nonsense route like a 2nd carrier on IND-RDU.

I'm gonna take it, there will once again be no LUV for BNA, as Nashville International Airport on Facebook hasn't posted anything mentioning a route announcement they usually do.

Interesting from the WN Flight Schedules page:
"On November 1, 2016 we will open our schedule for sale through June 2, 2017. This date is subject to change. Please check back frequently. Currently we are accepting air reservations through April 24, 2017."

However, if you attempt to book, you are stopped at March 4th. At least we already know the next extension date.

So it's time again for rumors, speculation and predictions.

This release I see international flying from LAX being released for sale.
CUBA service will be released for sale.
Some new FLL flying like FLL-LGA, FLL-PWM and RIC-FLL.

Rumor has it WN will also add 2 Daily LGB-DEN flights.
This is all part of a deal WN traded 3 DCA slots with B6 for 5 LGB slots. Yes this sounds far fetched but WN plans to Double Down on California because of AS/VX merger.
And B6 could do better with 3 DCA slots vs 5 low revenue slots at LGB.

FAT and STS are rumored to actually be on the short list with possible 4 daily flights 2 LAX and 2 LAS.

LAX rumors
LAX-MEX
Taking away one slot away from HOU-MEX.
LAX-TPA
LAX-MCO
LAX-FLL
LAX-CMH
LAX-IAD

Other rumors
BOS-ISP
BOS-LAS

STL-ISP
STL-RIC
STL-PWM

MSP-LAS

Again this is all good clean fun arm chair network planning!

Schedule is out!

So far the most interesting add I have found is Saturday only service from DEN-BZE.Never thought that would be an addition by WN.

Also OMA-PHX is going to 4x daily...wow...lots of lift for this route!

Just go through the schedule like you're booking and see if you can find anything new. Later in the day a detailed report will come out from southwest. Usually in the afternoon. It will be post on the southwest blogspot website and referenced in this forum by somebody.

Also MSP-LAS was added as 1x daily!

Normal spring expansion for MKE, back up to 46/weekday. Thirteen weekday nonstops to Florida grows to 20x on Saturdays. Seattle is back so the January cut (leaving just AS on SEA-MKE) is only during the dead of winter.

I saw MSP at 7:30 AM Central. Would imagine all cities update at the same time on the map. My impression is if you see nothing now, it means nothing is there, unless WN is doing a special route announcement for a particular city pair.

The route map is already updated, usually happens early in the morning. Once the flights are loaded in the booking engine you are good to go. Just have to remember what the route map looked like prior to the update or manually search.

Looks like the blog is rebranded now. Check for posts from Bill this afternoon. Now https://community.southwest.com

IAD has 7 flights a day
2 ATL
3 DEN
1 LAS
1 MCO

DEN and LAS cover the west.
ATL covers FL and some TX cities.

United has a good coverage throughout the Midwest from IAD so WN really doesn't need MDW service.
Actual O&D on the IAD-MDW flight was low.
So it made since to Stop the service once DCA-MDW came online.

Remember that WN tried IAD-SAN last year and axed it relatively quickly. (And WN doesn't cancel SAN routes very often.)

I would conclude that WN is happy just keeping a minimal presence at Dulles, for the time being anyway.

I don't think anybody was expecting station closures. September 2017 schedule is when that is most likely to happen.

The 2014 station closures happened in early June - right at the beginning of the busy summer travel season. These days I'm not so sure WN will close any more stations, perhaps because the likes of DAY and ICT are just too important to business travelers and other important FFers throughout the entire country (i.e. loyal millennial AUS/SAN/SJC transplants from Ohio that frequently go home to visit friends and family). I have a feeling very few high value WN customers had any desire or need to visit BKG, EYW and JAN - while quite a few probably do value access to places like CAK and DSM for business and/or personal reasons...

Just seasonal adds for spring break like always, not permanent. Like how ROC doubles WN ops for the spring to address increased traffic.

It's interesting that WN is trimming the seasonal PHL-FLL to only 1x daily, while being at 4x on PHL-MCO. With only 1x daily on PHL-FLL and seasonal only, I don't know how WN works on the route, while B6 and AA have better frequency for business travelers and higher yielding passengers, and NK and F9 skim the lower yielding passengers. If demand is strong, WN should be at better frequency and/or serving it year round. It'd be interesting if NK increases PHL-FLL to 2x daily, or if F9 adds service. F9 is on PHL-MIA and it has Cuba connections and Miami point of sale, but F9 seems to like the lower cost airport aspect of FLL and keeps TTN and CVG still linked, so certainly can add a FLL-PHL flight in the mix, if it senses WN decrease of service warrants opportunity to step in.

WN screwed up FLL-PHL big time. They thought they had it all to themselves and, after going 3x daily year round, pulled it back to seasonal with the pull down of PHL. From people I talk to and what I know, the route does well...but now with JetBlue 2x daily, spirit, and AA on the route, they seem to be finding it harder. Sad indeed.

Finally MSP-LAS! Hopefully it will be made year-round and grow. Also, I don't remember MSP-PHX being 4 daily. I remember 3, but not 4.

Now if MSP could get DAL or HOU. Texas/southern connections are limited as it stands.
