EK521 TRV-DXB (777-300 A6-EMW) crash landing in DXB

Almost every flight is going around or holding, no airplanes taking off. What is going on at DXB? It is very hot, almost 50c. And I see many flights now diverting to DWC. Metar message says runways closed.

Interestingly, the Twitter and Facebook account has changed colours and it is now grey (typical colour for a major accident).

Twitter showing a badly burned 777 lying on the runway - no reported casualties yet but looks pretty serious. See https://twitter.com/brendanoneal.

Slides must be on the other side, closer to the ground. Early reports says "no casualties", that would be a great relief if confirmed

Apologies I did not see the stories about a crash, I had figured a runway inspection or similar causing a delay. Any information about casualties? I hope everyone gets out okay. There were a lot of aircraft on final approach close to minimums before going around, it must have been after the aircraft got off the runway

The reports say it had a gear problem before landing, and it must have caught fire after vacating the runway because many aircraft had to go around close to landing after that aircraft landed. If you can find the landing time there are archives for omdb at liveatc.net but reception on all their feeds is not great.

Here's a video the moment EK521 came to halt on the runway:

If you look closely, the right hand engine departed the aircraft before it caught fire.

Media (as for the Government of Dubai) says there are no injuries.

However Emirates' Facebook page (with some updates) makes no reference to the safety of passengers.

Looks like the MLG wasn't deployed or locked (reason for the emergency).

Video seems to lend credence to the landing gear issue theory. Perhaps hard landing caused by windshield?

Also, video seems to indicate good chances for pax survival, assuming evacuation went well.

Incredible if reports are true that everyone got out. Really hope it's the case. From the videos on Twitter it looks like it's very windy. Flames and smoke must have spread really fast.

From the way aircraft turns as it stops it looks as if the flames and smoke would have traveled away from the fuselage, this would have helped significantly with the evacuation.

Looks like a wing fuel tank exploding, you can see the wing's upper panel being thrown into the air.

The explosion looks like it blew off part of the wing, not sure how much it impacts the fuselage. Hopefully this happened after evacuation.

"EYE WITNESS report"

Last Update: 2016-08-03 10:23:48 GMT
An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EMW performing flight EK-521 from Thiruvananthapuram (India) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with 275 people on board, was on final approach to Dubai's runway 12L at 12:41L (08:41Z) but attempted to go around from low height. The aircraft however did not climb, but after retracting the gear touched down on the runway and burst into flames. Passengers are being reported evacuated and safe. The aircraft burned down completely.

The airline reported: "Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on 3rd August 2016 at about 12.45pm local time."

United Arab Emirates Government confirmed an Emirates aircraft arriving from India suffered a crash landing at Dubai Airport, all passengers have been evacuated, there are no reports of injuries.

According to ATC recordings the aircraft performed a normal approach and landing, there was no priority or emergency declared. Upon contacting tower tower reminded the crew of lowering the gear and cleared the aircraft to land. Another approach reported on tower frequency. About 2 minutes after EK-521 reported on tower, the crew reported going around, tower instructed the aircraft to climb to 4000 feet, the crew acknowledged climbing to 4000 feet, a few seconds later tower instructs the next arrival to go around and alerts emergency services. The position of the aircraft is described near the end of the runway.

I'm interested to understand the reasons why an evacuation was performed on the right hand side, since that's where the fire was? Slides do not appear to be deployed on the left, but were on the right, perhaps because that was closer to the ground as the plane had tilted having lost the right engine. However, the right was where the explosion and fire appeared to be.

Nevertheless, whatever reason it was clearly the right one if all passengers and crew and alive and accounted for.
