AirLanka livery questions

Sat Aug 06, 2016 5:04 pm

Hi all,

I have a few questions regarding the old livery of AirLanks (today SriLankan). I look at some pictures here at A.net but can’t get my head around if the belly of the aircraft is painted light grey or white. On some pictures it looks grey and on some it looks more like a white in comparison to the grey engines.
Is it grey or white?

Then I'm wondering what logo that were placed juts behind the L1 door on the A340 and behind the cockpit on the L-1011 on both sides of the aircraft as well?

And when did they introduce the winglet and engine logos on the A340? As on some pictures the aircraft have none, some only the engines and some both the engines and the winglet. Did this introduction have anything in common with the logo next to the L1 door?

A few pictures from the site.

The belly was white. The high sun in many of those shots makes it look grey.
Question everything. Trust no-one.

Hi,
Thanks for that information. Do you happen to know what the logo around the L1 door was?

Yes I know it's the Srilankan flag right next to the name of the airline, I was thinking about the small round white circle on the red cheatline at the front of the aircraft.

Looks like it could be their peacock logo, similar to the one on the tail.
When wasn't America great?

It was a stunning livery regardless of the airframe. It was a sad day when UL "Eurowhite".

It looks like a number 92 in the white circle (but hard to tell for sure, it's just beyond the resolution of the photos). Perhaps something to do with the year 1992?

The logo should be for the Cricket World Cup tournament

That is quite probable. I had some UL crew from era look over the pictures and they said it may have been the SAARC games too. It appears putting sports logos were common in UL history.

Yes, the "white circle" was not always the same, and likely to do with sports. While the Tristar pictured above has "92" in it, this one (taken in 1994) clearly has "94" in it:

No Cricket World Cup Tournament that year though.
