Ok, I've seen lots of similarities between some airlines liveries out there but c'mon, isn't that the top of lack of originality?
They don't really bother being so alike to other airlines? I would...
Don't they have expressive paychecks for hundreds of high level employees who deal with Marketing and Branding?

Add Swiss & Virgin to that list.

I can go one better - these two airlines don't even bother one whit, right up to the name of the company!






Now that I've got that out of the way - to answer OP's question: just because all three airlines have the same red tail-white fuselage livery doesn't mean that it's just lazy livery design. All three are distinctive enough that you can identify it at first glance.

Cathay Dragon is owned by Cathay Pacific & are linked in many ways for advo. So its no surprise the livery matches.

Gosh for many many years Aer Lingus and KLM could have been easily confused if slightly colourblind! Well until you checked out the tails!

I don't know what an "expressive" paycheck is, but I highly doubt airlines have hundreds of high-level employees in marketing.

That was a case of Jet2 temporarily leasing Allegiant's (already painted) 757 before G4 started 757 ops, and then mimicking the Jet2Holidays livery from it so that the G4 plane(s?) wouldn't look out of place.

and of course that was a result of CO's significant ownership stake in Copa.

With so many airlines going with euro-white schemes, spotting can be rather bland. The fancier the livery, the more it costs to keep a fleet looking good.

Airlines usually hire a design firm/advertising agency to take care of their branding. Marketing employees are used mainly for advertising campaigns or any other sort of promotions using the logo and brand guidelines established by the design firm/advertising agency.

Yep, I knew I wasn't alone in my thinking...

On final approach, it's pretty hard to distinguish a AC Rouge Airbus to a Virgin America Airbus.

The MOST identical paint these days are those of Turkish ONUR AIR and Greek new start-up OrangeFly. Check it out!!!

United, Copa and Aegean.. compare their 737's, quite similar apart from A3's tail logo. Still United and Copa are very similar.

Austrian is somewhat similar to ones in the original post

At a quick glance the recent photo upload of Go2Sky B737 forward part of tail looks like the American tail?
orient Thai similar to BA?
Lucky Air of China knocking off IAG with the BA tail with IB colours?

Then my mum with her her VoloTea-Towels hanging off the washing line aping Volotea?

So is this where you give companies like Aeroflot and Spirit a TON of credit for being distinct?

Of every livery, why would AM try and copy AA's? It's not great.

BA and Comair are also exceptionally similar, the resemblance is uncanny, its almost as if they share the same livery...

I don't think I'd have a problem differentiating between the three in the haze or fog.

Copa & United - similar on purpose because of Continental was once a shareholder.

As for Aegean, looks nothing at all like United & Copa.

Not really in my opinion! Taxiing at HKG, especially at night, at a distance, or only seeing the top part of the tail behind something, it can be difficult to discern whether an aircraft is Dragon or Qantas – especially since they're often both A330s!

Transaero livery always made me think of Air France - the red white and blue strips on the tail

Shenzhen airlines and Hainan airlines are pretty similar. And they operate in the same market. Would be great if a person that is better than me at posting photos could post a comparison.

Are you sure you meant those?

Comair Ltd has a slight shareholding by Ba and the franchise agreement for the Ba division regulates it to take on all aspects of Ba, their are only two things different that passengers don't notice, the Cock pit crew fly in a Comair uniform, the cabin crew are in Ba gear. The nose crest has the Comair logo , stating operated as Ba. The cockpit crew who are not seen where a generic uniform as they fly both flights operated as Ba and the low cost carrier of the parent company , Kulula. This applies to cabin crew who also have a Kululu uniform so they can operate both. Bottom line is the franchised Ba must look like Ba , inside and out
