It is a true testament to YVR’s position as a connecting hub to the Asia-Pacific region, and to YVR’s competitiveness in attracting new carriers.”

YVR has way better international service than SEA.

That's probably true, but SEA is getting better. Also, YVR is very accessible to the Seattlelites! I have a coworker who is very excited about this new flight.

I'd rather not have this joke of an airline, together with Xiamen and Sichuan, and have EK serve YVR instead just like SEA.
These flights are not driven by economics.

Agree with Topguncanada. According to Wikipedia, these two cities have a combined population of over 27 million people. YVR gives them access to a large percentage of North America.

I wonder if they'll codeshare with WestJet on this one?

I'm curious why does Beijing capital operate under a different brand to Hainan? Would it not make sense to have a larger brand for a better global awareness

I've always wondered, why many chinese airline have a stop over in their own country? Is it purely to increase load factor or is it a trick to overcome the 'one airline on one route' rule?

It's no surprise that more Chinese carriers are picking YVR with all of the real estate investments and booming tourism in BC. It's pretty impressive that with the addition of Beijing Capital, not only does YVR break its own record but it has more Chinese mainland carriers than any other airport in North America. That's definitely going to drive down airfares between YVR and Asia on a more long term basis. But I wonder if we'll ever get an A380 service to YVR from China just like LAX with China Southern?

There's obviously demand for China-YVR considering how huge the China market is, so what's the problem with new service by carriers not currently operating? China has dozens of cities many times bigger than YVR that still lack any transpacific service. There's plenty of room for new service in additional markets.

The YVR-China market is massive and is only growing, plus as of right now YVR is far less saturated than LAX and is one of the most efficient transit hubs on the west coast.
