Dragon A330 collides with van at Hong Kong
This afternoon a Airbus A330-300 (B-HLL) of Cathay Dragon was damaged when it struck a vehicle. The minivan was destroyed and the driver sustained injuries.
Still unclear which of the two got the greater momentum, but according to the images the impact seems to be quite hard.
Flight KA691 to Penang was cancelled as a result.

Judging by the skid marks on the ground, the van go pushed along a fair way before the airplane stopped.
Not a fun ride, especially with that fan spinning just a couple of feet from the driver's head.
I hope he's ok. I bet you he won't do that again.
Towards the end of the security footage, you can see the van abruptly changing course as it is sucked in by the engine.

How did the driver not see the aircraft or if he did, why did he choose to try to drive underneath the aircraft?

According to local newspaper, the driver had a stroke while driving.
He's currently hospitalised, in stable condition.

The rear tire was ripped off.... Imagine the force necessary to do that

Unfortunately, I'm Not buying it. The video shows the van slowly pulling out from the gate area as if it was normal and then gunning it and turning straight towards the airplane once the plane began to move and then it turned again to strike directly into the engine.

According to the news article, it's suspected that the car got a little too close to the engine and therefore got sucked by the engine vortex.

A stroke is possible. Loss of control of one side of the body, lead foot results. As for steering into the engine, he didn't do that. The engine intake sucked him in.

Looks very intentional to me... Waited for the aircraft to start moving then went direct for the engine.

hm..suicidal mission? come on..given he got access to the entire airside, he would have far better opportunities to kill himself. Drive into the path of a large jet on the runway for instance..
