New AA Safety video

Thu Sep 22, 2016 5:02 pm

AA debuted a new safety video today.

Pretty creative, IMHO.

Plenty of legroom in that cabin!

It reminds me somewhat of Virgin America's dancing safety video, insofar as it is shot in a warehouse with the aircraft cabin mocked up. It's creative I suppose, but I think the old one was far better. Just my opinion of course.

I like the visuals, but they could have picked a flight attendant with more charisma.

They choose an weird place on the set to pause and talk about stowing things in your seat/making sure they are upright with the bar awkwardly there.

Not bad IMO - nice modern visuals. But the reference to the failed "Going for Great" slogan at the end should be changed. Not that I'm all that thrilled about the newer one.
Great Lakes, great life.

I wil miss the many "thank you" I get from the safety video, lol :)

I also liked this one. Feels modern, kinda Virgin and the Air France one.

It's ok but absolutely nothing compared to Delta's enthusiastic and fun safety videos.
Are these gigantic scarfs part of the regular AA uniform? They look clownish.

Is a fast-paced enthusiastic safety video something that frequent travelers want though? The Virgin America one, for example, is great the first and maybe second time around, but eventually I found myself wanting to close my eyes and plug my ears especially on something like a red eye.

I want something that will engage me to the point where I digest the information but then can easily ignore after countless repetition.

I think AA perhaps owe AF some royalties...
I only turn left when boarding aircraft. Well, mostly. All right, sometimes. OH OKAY - rarely.

I think this is professional, but fresh. The old one was very awkward for me.

This isn't fun, but it's not cheesy. I think they got the balance right for their brand

I love it. It reminds me of the clever music videos from Ok Go (like this famous one)
It's fresh and has the right balance between fun and informative. I absolutely dislike the 'in your face funny' safety videos (from Delta for example), as humor/comedy is quite a subjective taste. This one has so many interesting and quirky details you wouldn't directly spot at the first viewing, that it's great fun to watch it again.

I can also recommend watching the 'behind the scenes movie': link

It's definitely inspired by Air France's new video.

I like the American colloquialisms. They're something I associate with American English but not incomprehensible in other countries. I'm not a fan of the blue and silver hands but they look artsy.

A very fresh take on the safety video. I'm happy that it's modern but not minimalist. There's lots of visual tricks to draw attention. The video should be able to convey most of the message without any accompanying sound. This video falls a little short of that, but maybe now people will actually watch the video, so they're better off.

I like the video effects. But there are a couple of problems: There's no warmth exuded from the principal FA. No friendliness. Second, I didn't count how many total actors were in film, but I did count the number of minorities: Three blacks. I thought AA prided itself on being all-inclusive? Then what happened here?

I like the music, and it's original, but it screams low budget. If AA is the world's largest airline, it could also play up its global network a bit more. As for the uniforms, it's a lot better than what it replaces.

On the 77Es at least, AA shows a rotation of featured cities on the PTV screen during boarding, so pax already get it. That said, I would have expected them to realize that pointing and finger wagging isn't exactly the nicest gesture in many cultures--it's a small detail, but I noticed it immediately and I'm sure others will too.

Overall, not bad and a fresh, fun,--and fairly decent--take. That said, the " 'cause we're going for great'" at the end followed by celebration looks awkward and doesn't fit with the video or the message at all. Hopefully wiser heads will prevail and cut that last second out.
