Did Delta Destroy Possible Czech Airlines Long Haul Plans

Tue Oct 25, 2016 5:31 pm

I've noticed that Delta's New York to Prague route has been so frequently serviced now. If CSA had plans to start their own Prague to New York service did Delta basically screw them with theirs?
Thats a unique Optical Ilyushin!

CSA had a long haul routes between Prague and ORD, JFK, EWR, and SFO. But abandoned them a number of years ago.
Remind me to send a thank you note to Mr. Boeing.

I think DL has been perfectly happy to see OK not fly new routes to the USA, and it's likely they won't code share if they do. Beyond that I don't think Delta can stop them.

It does not really have do deal with Delta. For DL, PRG is still a very seasonal market, although you are correct that this year it was served at times with A330's instead of 763's. CSA flew those routes when they had their A310's. But starting in the late 2000's, fleet was reduced in half, and Heathrow slots were sold to BA.

When Korean Air invested in CSA, the concept was to feed traffic to the rest of CSA's European routes, and they gave them an A330 to fly to ICN but it is only to get around the bilateral as Korean can only serve PRG 4 weekly so OK and KE combined provide a daily service.
But Korean Air is not Etihad, they are not willing prop up CSA like Etihad has done with Air Serbia.

Since the investment CSA's situation has not improved significantly, ex: they are still leasing out planes to Saudia. Last year, Travel Service, the other Czech airline has also invested in CSA. Apparently it has gotten better, apparently so far this year their profit was reported to be around 2m USD.
