cant say im shocked.
Jordan is a pretty small market and it probabely served mostly O&D pax(maybe some feeds from TLV and BEY) plus CAN is also not the biggest market compared to PEK,HKG and PVG.
for most people the sky is the limit. for those who love aviation, the sky is home...

CAN gets a lot of connecting traffic from Africa, as it's the center of African-Chinese trade. surprised RJ couldn't make it work but there is a lot of competition on the route.

if RJ really wants to competitively serve CAN, the only viable option is AMM-CAN nonstop. Making a stop at BKK makes them thoroughly uncompetitive against ME3 and other China-Africa nonstop options.

Unless RJ offers dirt cheap price for this market, it would not be able to compete at all. But doing so would destroy its yield. First, it does not offer nearly as many African destinations as TK, ET and EK. Then TK, ET and EK both offer non-stop daily service to their respective hubs from CAN, where if you take RJ, you need to waste time stopping over at BKK. AMM is also a bit out of the way for connection between CAN and Africa, especially East Africa, comparing to connecting at DXB or ADD.

Lastly, the African community in Guangzhou has shrink a lot lately actually. It's still a robust hub for African merchants in China, but no longer as busy as a few years ago. See article below that talks about just that.

RJ is just too small and lacks adequate and diverse feed to make such flights work. Also added stop in BKK makes journey less attractive.

Jordan don't have a reputation as a tourist destination, for now, at least locals in Hong Kong and our neighbors in Guangzhou have not heard of Aquba or some of the heritage sites in Jordna, they still link Jordan=Middle East=War/ISIS.

I could very much see this route working 2/3 weekly if it was nonstop. Especially with marketing in Cairo and Khartoum.
Their Africa network is rather abysmal...Cairo, Khartoum, Tunis, Sharm, and Algiers IIRC.

They have never served CAN before, just kept postponing launch.

Having been to Jordan twice from holidays from HKG they really need better tourism advertising. Jordan, the real Middle East.
Greetings from Hong Kong.... a subsidiary of China Inc.

I actually get to know these places as the girl next room to me in University were from Jordan, but, yeah, most locals have no ideas.

Hainan will be starting TLV-PEK in the spring (currently only LY flies this route). That's probably capturing some of the TLV originating traffic to Guangzhou RJ has been relying on.
