Delta 737-800 fire at JFK?
I heard that a DL 737-800 caught fire while parked over night. The damage was cockpit area anyone heard this

Yes aircraft is N395DN. The incident happened on the early morning hours of November 1st. The fire was below the cockpit area and burned through the fuselage but was quickly put out.

Apparently the fire started in the Avionics Bay, during an A-Check.

Just about anything burning up in there is going to be expensive to repair. Extrapolating from April data, she had around 47,000 hours on her and 24,000 cycles. Since nobody was hurt, time to cue the "will it be repaired" squad.

The cockpit photo is amazing. Quite a bit of soot. Looks like if it haven't been flown in 25 years

I don't think that is soot. I think that is mostly the discharge from the Purple-K fire extinguisher apparently used.

ooooh... gpu. i have seen a faulty gpu fry an A321 once. those things can be dangerous if the plugs are worn down.

Line MTC does a lot of work overnight at the terminal gates. No reason to move the plane to a remote site just to change a few filters and do some check out items.

Contrary to the belief of this board, damage pictures are not the public's business particularly of areas not externally visible. Then there is the issue about private matters being shared publicly without the carrier's consent.....

Settle down. They were doing maintenance on a plane parked outdoors, at a gate, at a major airport. If privacy was a concern mechanics would tow their planes to company-owned hangers and close the doors before lighting them on fire.

I think they'll try to put that plane back in service if possible. They need aircraft in that 160 seat capacity and if it makes financial sense to repair it they will do it.

that's gonna be a heckuva repair ... even worse if EE equipment/wiring is damaged ...
