Second life for ex-WN 733s?

Tue Nov 08, 2016 1:54 pm

I'm very confused by this. Skyliner is reporting ex-Wn 733 N685SW escaped TUS and ferried all the way to NTG (Nantong, China).

My question is why? This aircraft is very well used (over 92,000 hours and 68,000 cycles). Is there a new breaker's yard getting set up in China? It'd be insane to see this frame get put back into service.

It is confusing to be sure as they also flew a 500 series there as well-N514WN if I recall

But spares for whom? The 737 classic drawdown in China continues, with their examples headed to MZJ recently. The only Chinese classics we will see soon are going to be the freighters.

Have we seen a Chinese scrapping operation suddenly spring up?

Is that the one that got here to Anchorage, and promptly dumped fuel all over the ramp?
What a mess.

The a/c did not dump one drop of fuel--the ramper made the mistake

There are more and more 737 classic freighter operators in China. Perhaps these are feeding them.

Perhaps as parts sources? A 737 with 90000+ hours and 70000 cycles isn't a great choice for conversion. Mx needs would be pretty spendy.
