No; but the FedEx reaction is exactly what I would expect from any Airline if they had been notified that one of their Aircraft had a suspected engine related to the American Airlines engine failure. That the aircraft is out of service until the engine is changed.

Bravo FedEx.

I'm seeing N642FE in B check at IND and also getting a #2 engine change, and N602FE at BLR with unscheduled #3 overhaul. Could be either.

Perhaps it's dumb question, but are the engines on a 763 (I think that was the type of aircraft that caught fire at ORD) really the same as the engines on a MD-11?
Airports: BOS, JAX, JFK, EWR, LGA, CVG, ATL, CLT, DCA, IAD, STT, PVD, ALB, MCO
Aircraft: 733, 735, 73G, 738, 752, 717, A319, A320, MD-88, E190, E175, E145, CRJ-200, CRJ-700, Q400
Airlines: B6, CO, DL, US, NW, WN, DH
...a good start but a long way to go!

GE said there was still one engine in service with suspect part from the same batch of engines as the one that let go on the AA 763, looks like we might have found the lucky owner.

I saw a list somewhere that indicated that this model of engine was used on 4 or 5 different aircraft. The total number of these engines produced apparently is over 10,000 as well. It just might be the most successful engine model ever; and it is still in production for new aircraft being built today.

Have a great day,

CF6 is widely used ... that 10k production count is just for aviation, too ... it also has marine power applications, as well as power generation applications.

(I wonder if the guy with the L1011 engine in his backyard will ever add a CF6 to his RB211)

Different power rating, but very very similar indeed.
The GE CF6 family has been used to power the A300/A310, 747, 767, DC10, and MD-11.
While there are several different sister engine designs, they're all fundamentally a CF6.

Don't forget it is used on the A330 too.

GE is footing the bill for all the engines involved I presume.

Most commercial engines fall under an engine service program plus insurance. So It's complicated but Fedex is covered one way or the other.

Can an MD-11 last as long as a DC-10?
