AA 332 at BOS

Mon Nov 28, 2016 1:45 pm

I'm new ... so be kind, but I've noticed that AA has been running an A332 on BOS - PHL of late. Seems odd. I know they added one on BOS - CLT last winter, but that was during the period when you have a lot of traffic to points south during the height of winter. Any thoughts as to why a "Super Shuttle" on BOS - PHL?

Lots of slack in the A330 fleet during the winter and BOS-PHL has the demand to fill an A330. Also a very short flight so its good use of the plane between European runs.

Aircraft utilization. US, and now AA, often throws/threw their A330s on domestic/Carib/Cancún routes. BOS, MCO, MBJ, and CUN were some of the favorites if I remember right. I'm pretty sure they don't do PHL-CLT or PHX anymore.

This time of year you have a lot of students traveling - Thanksgiving recess and then as classes close. Most colleges will be out within the next three weeks.

AA sends them to PHX seasonally; one will be operating CLT-PHX-PHL over the December/January holiday period. They actually just had a 332 operate PHX-CLT on Sunday morning after ferrying in from SJC. PHL-CLT (and v.v.) seems to see them seasonally still. MIA also sees domestic 330 ops (I think right now they're at 2x daily)

Between now and about a week before Christmas (December 15th this year) the airline is actually running a reduced ops schedule on some days. It's one of the slower periods of the year, traditionally, before holiday travel swings into full gear.

They seem to run a 332 on BOS-CLT regularly.

They did earlier this year for a couple of months, February-March IIRC, and also back in March of '14 which is when they operated PHX-CLT with a 332 as well.

I take the BOS-PHL almost every week and it is pretty much sold out flight. Even with steep corporate discounts, the fare prices are very high based on the demand if you make last minute bookings. If my memory serves well, the flight in the morning makes a trip from PHL-SFO and sometimes to AUA.

SFO and AUA would be in flight number only. The 332 has yet to make it to SFO and pretty sure the same for AUA. I believe PUJ, SJU, CUN, & SXM are the only warm weather destinations for the 330.

Right about SFO; they barely send the 767s there anymore too. CLT-AUA however will see the 332 from December 15 to January 8. I was surprised to see that SXM seems to be all narrowbody through the end of the year.

Here's the full list of non-intercon/short-haul A330 flying this December:

CLT-AUA
CLT-BOS
CLT-MCO
CLT-PHL
CLT-PHX
CLT-PUJ
CLT-SJU
PHL-BOS
PHL-CUN
PHL-MCO
PHL-MIA
PHL-PUJ
PHL-SJU
PHX-PHL

Not all of these are daily or even weekly; some are just a few days of the month, e.g., Christmas Day, one or two Saturdays, etc.

Saw the plane parked over on the remote stand this morning around 5am. Tried connecting PHL to BOS to get on the bird but it couldn't make it work.

A chance of a DL A330 and AA A330 at PHX at the same time in the coming weeks, nice change of scenery!

Me, as well. I guess MIA and increased frequencies won out...

Interestingly, AA has a 332 RON at BOS.
