Why did Air France change CDG-BOM to 772/773 from A330/A340?

Mon Nov 28, 2016 9:09 pm

Noticed that the trusted A330 route has changed over to a 777 recently. Most days it operates with the newest configuration 772ER with 1-2-1 configuration in Business. Today it operated with a 773ER. Why the capacity and aircraft change? They've operated A330/A340s into Mumbai (BOM) for many years. Just wondering if anyone has any insight.

cheers,

Well, the A340 are being retired and the 777-200ER have more seats(280 vs 275 total seats). Maybe, CDG-BOM is a popular route to be operated by a 777-300ER(296/381/498 total seats). :)

Anybody knows when AF will cease A340 ops? What aircraft will be used for CDG-BOG? 789? 77W?
Upcoming flights:
April/May: AM MEX-SCL 788 (J), AM EZE-MEX 789 (J).

I was under the impression they always operated the 777 for many years to BOM. I myself flew the 777 many times to BOM with AF. Was the switch over more recent to the A340/330? Granted I haven't flown to India since 2011 so a lot must have changed.

Winter season travel demand to/from BOM DEL BLR is much higher versus summer and also has better yields on offer. Seeing this capacity increase by AF is not surprising one bit. Plus their B777 j class cabin is reputed to be better than the a332 hence they maybe trying to regain lost premium market share by offering this aircraft on the route !
