Not to nitpick, but the PA34 is not a jet.
Aircraft in question:

Hoping everyone is OK.

The Airport is in France (EU) not in Switzerland!

20min.ch reports that the plane arrived from Germany, and belongs to a flight school located at BSL. No good visibility when this happened.

At least one person has died, but it's unclear how many people were on board.

The accident has heavily disrupted ops at BSL, and some planes diverted to ZRH.

No it doesn't, First paragraph: -

It is located in France, on the administrative territory of the commune of Saint-Louis near the Swiss and German borders.

Incidentally, I've used the airport many times. It is in France but they have a Swiss access road so you can get to it without crossing a border control.

Very sorry to read about the crash.

BSL (the airport) is located on French soil, but the Swiss have a customs-free access road. BSL has one terminal building split in two nearly identical halves, each with its separate access roads. Swiss customs officers work there, but security is provided by the French police, and in these times, also by the French military.

The fact that employees at BSL have (or had) Swiss job contracts in spite of working in France has led to some brouhaha between French tax authorities and Switzerland. Another peculiarity: The operational headquarters of LX are located on French soil... the legal seat (namely a lawyer's office) is located in the city of Basel. But there is no LX traffic from and to BSL. :old:

Radio news have reported that the plane flew in "Sichtflug" ("visual flight") in spite of the fog. And still no news on the number of dead, they confirmed only one death as of now.

seems like the plane was trying to to perform a go-around but flew really low over a BA aircraft waiting to depart.

Thanks for that link!

The day before, FC Arsenal played FC Basel, winning 4:1. Lots of football fans waiting for their flights home...

I flew out of BSL yesterday morning on the 07:00 flight to CTN after attending the Arsenal game night before.

Anyone know what time the tragic incident took place? There was very low visibility when we took off, I am very surprised that a visual landing was attempted if conditions had not improved since then.
