Sun Country has modified it's livery and titling on the aircraft a bit

That's a shame. I'm sure it's cheaper, but I like the shadow-style logo on the fuselage.

That's a downgrade. Looks rather WN-esque.

At least it's a not huge change, but it's a solid downgrade nonetheless. I'm sure it's cheaper, and it looks that way.

At least the change isn't too much, but urgh, that new font looks like something a 6 year old would use in their first Microsoft word document, it's hideous

As a former SY employee I like the removal of the light blue logo on the front, I didn't like the light blue. Not happy about adding "AIRLINES" to the livery.

So glad that they felt the need to add AIRLINES after SUN COUNTRY. Without that I would have never guessed they are an airline.

Where are the people who claimed United was lazy when they took "Airlines" off of their aircraft? Now that someone does it, it's stupid! Geez people relax.

Actually the only bad thing is the font. The S thingy at the front was kinda weird to me.

I think it looks cleaner without the forward shadow logo, but I'm not a big fan of the cheat-line changing from swoopy to straight.
The font looks retro, and I can't decide whether it's a good thing or not. I'm kind of ambivalent about it.

I can't honestly say I've got the best taste in the world, but after really looking it over for a couple of minutes (which was hard to do thanks to the awful quality of the image), I actually kind of like it! Has a more modernized-retro hybrid look, especially with the type face, the straight cheatline, and the addition of "Airlines".

Sun Country has always been the underdog I've rooted for, and I'd really like to see them grow. Looking forward to the design on a real plane, or at least a better mock-up picture!

What I find strange is the plane in question N711SY, has been flying since Dec.6th when it came out of paint. Here in MSP I have seen no media coverage locally or found any online photo's. Any other airline photos are show before the plane comes out of the hanger. I guess SY still flies under the radar as they did when I worked for them.

After seeing a good photo of 711 in Facebook, I like it. 713SY is next 3 jets done this year, and as their jets go through heavy check, all 21 will be repainted. Now if we can just get UA/CO to change life will be good.

I'm surprised at just how negative a reaction to this new livery has received; given how little has been changed. Clearly there's been a cost-sensitive element, although that doesn't automatically equate to it being worse - in fact, personally I found the previous livery too noisy (with the S logo appearing twice being unnecessary), and the typeface being almost offensively dated!

The only thing I don't like about it is the choice of font. Removal of the forward shaded compass rose logo, though a fancy touch, undoubtedly was an expensive one to at. The font though, is giving me some kind of uncomfortable flashbacks.

Its somewhat hard to tell from a design sketch of a livery on how good it actually looks in person. Saying that, I always felt having the two compasses was a little redundant and looked a bit off. But adding 'airlines' makes complete sense, they're basically an unknown carrier outside of MSP. They need some more recognition at the other end of their routes, and this is an easy, low-cost option for them.

Is there a link to the picture? Would love to see how it actually looks.

The new scheme appears to remove a colour from the livery all together - light blue. I bet it results in a five-figure saving on the paint scheme itself, as well as a day or two of downtime.

It was at GUS (Peru, IN) from 11/27-12/6. That seems like a long time for a paint job, unless there was a maintenance check involved as well.

It arrived late on the 27th, and yes it went trough a maintenance check, IIRC annual....

Well, I can honestly say, and with great degree of certainty that I possess the second best taste in the world, as I admit yours is a bit better! And, I think both the old and the new liveries are quite "fugly" - both look like they were trying to copy SOUTHWEST and failed to do that well. If I were the CEO, I'd want something UNIQUE. Not "very unique", just "unique" as in just ONE like it.

I have no feelings toward SUN COUNTRY one way or another, but I have seen 1000 great, really creative, brilliant liveries wind up on the cutting room floor while I was at Landor. So much great work that were just TOO FAR for more conservative airlines. There is so much a great designer can do using an airplane as a canvas!

I'm okay with the removal of the S on the front but those titles are terrible, looks like they're leasing a plane and just slapped some cheap titles over the original operators name

They were both introduced (or first seen) on the same day actually- January 16 2001. Southwest's entered service first.

I like it. The straight cheatline is an improvement, the font is more sophisticated and easier to read, and I never liked the enlarged logo on the forward fuselage. A job well done, in my opinion.

Huge dislike. The absence of the "S" logo at the front makes it rather dull and not so colorful anymore.
The font used for the titles is too "serious" for an airline which is seen all the time at leisure locations!
I wonder when people will understand:
Embraer 190 or simply E190, not ERJ-190. E-Jets are NOT ERJs!
Boeing 747-8, not Boeing 747-800. Same goes for 787.
Airbus A320, not Airbus 320.
Airbii does not exist.

I thought about that...hours after I wrote the post!

So, now it seems as if they were both "inspired" about the same time?

I don't think they needed to add airlines to it. It looks cramped to me. I agree with others, the font doesn't catch me. If it's a cost saver, then I am all for it. It just doesn't have the "wow" factor to me. I guess it's just an airliner nerd way of looking at it! LOL!

I still love the overall paint scheme though!

Can we have a couple of them over here for Transavia, just like in 2008?

Hideous. I wish for once an airline wouldn't ruin its livery. I'm so over the minimalistic paint schemes that have become so common. While not Eurowhite, SY has now lost their flair with this change. Sigh

I flew home yesterday aboard N711SY, from SJU to MSP and thought I was seeing things when I watched the plane land at SJU and taxi up to the gate. I think the change is a real step backwards for the airline's look. Sun Country has one of the best, most eye catching liveries and now to see this modification made is very unfortunate. Why is it that companies have to fiddle and tinker with something that isn't broken or disliked?

I think it's better. The dual large logos were too much – distracted from the giant tail logo. I even like the new font, but I would have gone with a bigger white "Sun Country" (drop Airlines) closer to what WN does.

Two things:
1.) I happen to like the modified livery more than the previous. The new font adds sort of a "modernity" style to the livery, and I also appreciate that SY straightened up the line by the bottom of the fuselage. The prior always bugged me. All in all, good new look for SY.
2.) In the event SY ever did change their livery any more, I would enjoy seeing something incorporated from prior liveries. I was, and still remain, a big fan of the old white, red, and yellow livery that donned the old 722's and DC-10's. If they ever brought back something from those liveries, like the old font or some of the bright, flashy colors, I would be impressed.
