Hello there , i have noticed that most of the Star Alliance members carriers(UA/NH/ET/AC/CA/NZ) that operate Boeing 787 do not seem to have the Star Alliance logo and decals painted on the fuselage ,exception being Air-India's B 787 Dreamliner (with the registration VT-ANU). Any specific reasons ?

I don't believe NZ has ever had a widebody aircraft in Star Alliance colours, so this isn't particularly unusual.

Interesting observation. I'd say it's just a matter of time before this happens more. These planes are still 'new' and airlines are still showing them off as their new (some flagship) products.

Ah i see @FLAGSHIP.Perhaps as you said , in the near future would like to catch a glimpse of some of those SA alliance B787's

My nerdiness on it interrupted a date with a now ex-girlfriend. Might explain why I'm still oneworld loyal even if Qantas decided I was surplus to requirements!

I think UA should do it given how many 787's they have. THAT SAID: I just went on a business trip to Denver with a couple of people from my team last week. From the UA club window I pointed out a 787-8 to one of them, a guy about 40, he never heard of a 787, nor the name "Dreamliner"! I was stunned. It's so true that the gen pop REALLY doesn't care or pay any attention to what is SO IMPORTANT to us!

NZ has the Star Alliance symbol on all of its aircraft, just aft of the flight deck windows on each side (777, 787, A320, Dash-8 and ATR)

I thought that was what the OP was referring to at first too, but his reference to VT-ANU shows he's actually referring to aircraft in a Star Alliance scheme.

Agreed, I don't understand why SQ's aircraft should not be the same as others. The white tail livery is simply awful in my opinion.

Afaik, no alliance has any 787s other than AI...

What's the requirement from Star Alliance in terms of minimum number of aircraft to paint?

I think they base the number of painted planes off of the number of aircraft in your fleet.

The statement is a little confusing as you say "alliance", but then mention a specific airline instead of an alliance name.

Amongst Star Alliance members, AC, UA and TG all have 787s in addition to AI.

All of the big 3 alliances have member airlines that operate the 787.

Definitely, i was / am expecting UA to do away with some of its 787's.It is a bit dejecting and also a shocker to me when i inform passengers at check-in that their aircraft type has changed from this to that and their faces are like "what is that"? will we still be seated all together?

I just love those planes and i would never ever get bored of them.

Also in the past , Austrian B767 was seen in that out of the league Star Alliance scheme (all white )

AI is sort of ecstatic after becoming Star Alliance member. AI has painted one A320 (VT-ESF) and one B77W (VT-ALJ) in star Alliance livery as well. They also announce "we are proud to be a member of Star Alliance" before every flight, including domestic flights.

Yes absolutely. any SA painted member aircraft looks outstanding and appealing.I am a die hard fan of those (because i work as a check-in agent / ground staff for two Star Alliance member carriers here ).I respect all ..be it S.A/O.W/S.T .

UA has at least eight aircraft in *A livery (all with UNITED in annoyingly black instead of company blue). I believe one 77W will also be *A.

Why did UA has *A painted in black (always had this in my mind) ? blue would be appealing.

All the other *A airlines I've seen have the company name/title in that company's standard colors. But CO, and now UA, chose to keep all titles in the same black.

SQ for a while ran the Star Alliance livery with their own tail, IIRC because of something about their visual branding being in their opinion superior. As for the black tail, I believe I read somewhere on this site that SQ is superstitious of the black tail for some reason or another.

I don't know if Singapore's branding is actually "superior" to some others, BUT, Singapore is absolutely SUPERIOR at the art and science of branding (branding is different than brand). And, they are the masters.

That said, I personally LOVE the Singapore Crane and colors. And although the Crane it is very '70's in how it is drawn, they stick with it because it IS a true signal of excellence - I am sure Captain James T Kirk will fly Singapore Starlines from Earth to go on vacation in the Omicron Delta Region of space.

I think they are right to maintain their tail with the STAR ALLIANCE fuselage, and they are the ONLY airline (IMHO) that can do that.
