The Definition Of Baby Buses
Yes this is a topic i wanted to bring up... But I wonder what is the most used definition of a Baby Bus. Some confine it to A318 some to the A319-318 and some even up to the 320. So what is the true definition of a Baby Bus?
Well uh, I obviously decided to refine this but i dont know how.

I just had this discussion with someone on Facebook. Even though the 318 was smaller, IMO the 319 gets the "baby bus" title since so few 318's are out there.

Ask an A380 driver and everything is a baby bus. It's all relative!

Well the 320 was the original "bus" so it only makes sense that both variants smaller than it (318/319) could be considered a baby.

Well technically the A300 was the original, so arguably anything smaller than that could be called "baby bus", that is the entire A320 family and even the A310. Actually I wonder if people called the A310 the baby bus before the A320 was introduced.

I've heard the A319 referred to as the "baby bus" because it is a shortened A320, and then I've heard the A318 referred to as the "nano bus" because it is a shrink of an already shortened aircraft.

According to Airbus, it is the A318 because it is the smallest member of the a320 family

If you use the google ngram word incidence tool ( https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph )
you can see that:
"Airbus A320" use increases from 1980 onwards
"Airbus A319" starts to go up from 1990 onwards.
and "Baby Bus" gets a boost around 2001..2. smaller rise after 2004.
Baby Bus references the A318, late child, visibly smaller.

I tend to think of it as any non wide body Airbus, so basically A318 through to A321.

I've seen the 319 called Baby Bus and the 318 being called the Nano Bus 
Personally I don't really know which one should be the Baby Bus but I lean towards the 318.

In the cargo world, the A310 is still referred to as the baby bus.

I wonder if someone could refer to a Baby Bus as an aircraft type as a recently designed one/pt into service like the A350.

ah well guys, when it comes to discussing 'size' and the definition of 'baby'-something I cannot help but think about dick size... Seriously: it's all relative to what you have/are used to seeing.... The A318 might be a "baby" Airbus to some, but park it next to a Brasilia, or an ATR-42 (not to mention a lil' Cessna), and all of a sudden it looks like a towering giant.. See what I mean?
And it also gets a lot of different jobs done: trans-Atlantic too! Again.. it's not always size per se that matters!
I personally love the stubby look of the A318, with its tall legs and high tail.
