Southwest Website Down?

Tue Dec 20, 2016 7:40 pm

Trying to book some flights here this morning with no success. When I select flights and dates the system times out with an error message! Tried on two additional computers with no success. Any information appreciated

Wow and just after the head of the SWA pilots publically shamed the IT Dept.!! Again the double standard of course that the top pilot can complain about something he is not in charge of but if anyone in SWA management ever complained about piloting skills all hell would break loose.

I'm getting the same message. Looks like it's going to be another late night for the Southwest IT department....

This coming after the baggage handler crashed the loader into the #2 engine before my Saturday morning flight, which delayed the flight by an hour, and a logistical snafu delaying us by a half-hour on the return flight on Sunday. Obviously isolated incidents, but this has not a good week for WN.

Your post is contradictory - It would seem the critique of the IT department is justified. The pilots aren't the ones causing monthly crashes.

Can you imagine if the pilots operated on the same level of success as the IT dept?

My friend was working on SW's reservation system. It wasn't the whole system but a part of it. SW bailed on the project right as it was finishing. They paid for the services for my friend's business but all of a sudden wanted to do an 180 on their project. From what I have heard from my friend, SW's entire reservation system and website are continuously hanging by a thread.

The flight attendant contract negotiations basically stopped because the company couldn't make many of the asked for changes due to technology constraints. Someday they might decide to hold someone in IT accountable... until then though, I don't see much changing in terms of reliability.

Hardly an issue unique to SWA.

The new United AFA contract will take two years to fully roll out as two separate IT platforms must be integrated and then the newly agreed work rules coded and tested before going live.

Any new contract often takes months if not years to become manageable within the airline IT arena.

However, WN seems to refuse to update anything and when they try it rarely works out and they just give up.

For me when I do this In UAE, The site never works too. I've tried it with my new MacBook and has some problem like System error Access Denied. Can anyone tell me if they have problem like this too?
The best plane I've flown is an A380. They were the biggest and the best than other plane I've been on.

For a belt loader to crash into an engine and only result in an hour delay is actually quite impressive.

Sure, but it's still an hour that I'll never get back!

There are justifiable complaints - and then there's this one.

Sounds like geo blocking.

For longest time, SWA tickets could only be issued inside the US. Only in recent years is sale been possible in some other countries and via GDS.

Suspect southwest.com geoblocks nations like UAE.

Yes, they definitely do this and I was unable to access the site while visiting South Korea a few months ago. I really don't understand why they block entire countries like that.

I don't think you can ever book WN with OTAs. Only bookable by Southwest.com and over the phone.

Southwest was a great LLC. Now they want to be a major but they don't know how to put their big boy pants on.

Oh wow. Last time I had to buy a domestic connection in the US I just thought WN did not operate out of LAX!
