S7 Airlines to acquires 17 E170s

Thu Dec 22, 2016 4:35 pm

GECAS says it has reached agreement with S7 airlines on lease of 17 E170 aircraft.

S7 Airlines will be the first operator of the E170 in Russia and comes only weeks after Embraer earned type certificates from the Russian authorities for the E170 & 175.

Per S7 CEO, the aircraft will allow S7 serve regional and intra-regional routes that are too small for medium haul aircraft. The first pair of aircraft will be based at Novosibirsk.

Delivery scheduled in the first half of 2017.

I'm so happy to hear this, and it helps that I find the S7 livery to be one of nicest ones flying out there currently. Now if only they still flew the Ty-154M like the one I have a scale model of... :(

I believe I read on here that S7 would be getting a new livery when they take delivery of the A321NEO or something of the lines of that..

I hope that these aren't going to be delivered in the Green People livery. Its awful and doesn't even match the logo.

It just goes to show how subjective beauty is as I find there current livery to be amazingly beautiful.

As these are used aircraft, which former operator have they been with?

Im not positive but I think they will be the ex Republic ones that were grounded after bankruptcy. That is the only large source of E 170's available. I don't thing Embraer has produced any new E 170's in a few years. The E-170 has mostly been shelved in favor of the more economical E 175.

So will they're be leased from other airlines or other companies or purchase directly from Embraer? I'm not really sure about this yet.
The best plane I've flown is an A380. They were the biggest and the best than other plane I've been on.

Any updates on this? It seems that S7 hasn't started E170 operations yet, even though they are supposed to be in operation now, according to Airlineroute. http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/271720/s7-airlines-s17-embraer-e170-operations-as-of-06mar17/ Looking at Flightaware, routes scheduled on E170 still seem to be operated with A32x aircraft.

Only update is that they are all used from Republic Airlines.Oldest and I believe the first one is N801MA C/N 17000012

Quick Google News search brings this up:

http://aviationweek.com/aircraft-interi ... braer-170s

Considering this article came out 4 days ago, I think it's safe to say in-service date has been pushed back a bit.

I can confirm there is an E170 in S7 colours sitting in NWI airport UK. If the aircraft is still on the ground tomorrow morning I will try and get photos and upload them. The S7 title is in white on the tailfin and I don't believe it has the people style livery. Although I hope to fully confirm this tomorrow.

At the time S7 made the cost analysis of getting SSJs, S7 determined leasing new aircraft was not economically feasible. This was before the leasing of the SSJ for Russian airlines could be paid at a fixed rate in roubles, which made leasing the SSJ pretty much a gamble before payments in local currency was established.

It looks smart but maybe a bit cheap for a full service alliance member. Now for a Ural/S7 merger...
