That should be 500th delivered, not 500th built.

Pretty incredible feat.

What is the current backlog?

Time flies. 2004 and the ANA order for 50 seems not that long ago. 7/8/7 and the ensuing drama even less so. Battery issues - a blip. My daughter flew to Melbourne on a UA 787-9, just a few weeks after the second one was delivered. Again, seems like yesterday.

Congratulations to Boeing for making it this far, and here's to hoping for no more drama.

Unbelievable 500 have been delivered. Still have not logged any miles on one, hope to change that soon. Congrats to the Boeing team!

I remember the first time boeing announced this plane back then it was called 7E7 and nobody had ever heard the term A380.

Indeed surprising that we're already at #500. Congratulations!

It is astounding that #500 is here. I believe Boeing now makes a tidy cash flow from 787 deliveries, but is nowhere near program break even - maybe around #1000. Sorry if this is off topic - trying to be polite. Congratulations Boeing for making the 787 a trusted reliable airliner.

If that's 500, then the backlog is 710, given orders as of end of November.

The business press has been whining this year about slow orders, but the fact is that as the distance between orders and available slots grows shorter, and as older jets continue to age out, and as oil prices stabilize in the 50s/bbl, the aircraft will continue to attract orders. If the -10 comes online smoothly, as it is expected to do, it should grab its share. The A350 is proving to be an excellent aircraft as well, so the 787 isn't going to be the only game in town, but its in-service reliability and passenger satisfaction will drive another round of orders soon, in my view.

Actually it does. Your title says 500th built which is incorrect. The 500th built went to Air France. The Avianca frame is the 513th built, but the 500th delivery.

Just flew a 788 from IAH to GIG yesterday, just after coming off a 767. As a lover of airplanes and design, she really is absolutely beautiful. Aside from the ENORMOUS windows, the window well around it creates almost a row of modern Venetian arches, ala St Marco Square (I know, I'm crazy), but every detail is so perfectly thought through. The wing and engine look and perform like the future!
Congrats to Boeing...they had the dream for the "Dreamliner"...and made it come true. I can't wait for the 787-10!
