Couple of BA flights from LHR on an AB6...?

Sun Dec 25, 2016 1:05 pm

Merry Christmas gents. I noticed a few flights this morning from LHR with BA flight numbers (one to Brussels and the other to Leipzig) showing an aircraft type of AB6. This refers to the A300-600 right? I didn't realise BA operated this type. Also when trying to track the flights, each one of them showed as Unknown.

The Brussels flight was BA3406.

Does anyone have any info on these flights?

Regular cargo flights operated by DHL A300s, usually German EAT ones

Assuming it's not an error, it would be freighter flights. BA occasionally charters in freighters to do special movements as they no longer have dedicated aircraft.

When I was down there regularly used to see the AB6 parked up round Cargo and did wonder if they were there under their own steam, and it seemed an odd location for them.

This is nothing new as BA have been using Airbus A300 aircraft from DHL to fly regular cargo flights to European destinations from London Heathrow for several years now.

I think the better question is if any carriers still fly passenger A300s/A310s particularly in EU/NA/Asia.

Not really as we are discussing BA Cargo flights using DHL Airbus AB6 aircraft from London Heathrow Airport, if you want to start your own thread regarding 'any carriers still flying passenger A300s/A310s particularly in EU/NA/Asia' feel free to do so.

The DHL A300s use "Eurotrans" as callsign and don't carry BA flight numbers unless this is a new thing?

Iran Air and Mahan Air for sure. Maybe also TAROM and MIAT Mongolian, the latter two are / were in the process of retiring them.

Wrong on the second part -They certainly do have BA (IAG Cargo) codes and aren't part of the EAT package network.

As to using Speedbird call sign not sure its necessary.

There are six weekend scheduled BA cargo flights into and out of LHR operated for them by DHL:

BA3401 operates BRU-LHR on a Saturday arriving mid afternoon.

BA3402/03 operates LHR-AMS-LHR on a Saturday early afternoon.

BA3404/05 operates LHR-CDG-LHR early and late Saturday evening.

BA3406 operates LHR-BRU early Sunday morning.

Actually a good opportunity to catch DHL movements in daylight, just make sure you are at LHR on a Saturday afternoon ...
