OAG Changes 12/30/2016: AM/AS/B6/DL/F9

FAQ

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares departures for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

WHERE ARE SEATS SHOWN?
They aren't. This only shows departures.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Flights that do not operate every day of the month create fractional service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. For example, if a flight operates 4 times in April it will show 4/30=0.133=0.1. Also , a flight that only operates once per week may vary between 0.1 and 0.2 because a weekday may repeat either 4 or 5 times depending on the month.

WHAT ABOUT CARRIERS THAT DON'T PUBLISH A SCHEDULE 9 MONTHS IN ADVANCE?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. I remove the schedule adds if I see them and show a year over year (YOY) comparison if I notice them.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE SKYWEST
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THIS LOOKS LIKE AN ERROR?
The carriers file the schedules. They do make mistakes. Most of the mistakes I have seen are either related to code shares not being marked as "duplicates" or carriers filing flights with invalid data such as equipment codes that are not standard. This causes flights to not appear.

CHARTERS?
Lately charters have been showing up in the database. I have no idea if that will continue.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Thanks as always!! Merry Xmas/Hannukah and any other holidays to everyone on here.

Good to see AM gaining traction in BOS... different approach to the debacle of the mid 2000's where they went all-in on daily and had the plane RON in BOS. I think they have changed the flight times 3x already but it appears the red eye leaving BOS is the right approach for now. Unlike other AM markets to USA...the VFR isn't as large. Though BOS-MEX is a decent size business market you still need some connections (GDL, MLM, Pacific Beach Resorts etc)

Nice another Caribbean route gaining momentum - hoping to see a Saturday BOS-GND/ANU/CUR in W18 or JFK-BON.

Good to see this route is still performing well. Would be interesting/ great to see B6 add another Caribbean destination from BDL; maybe KIN or MBJ (seasonal)?

Yes, this is the first time PHX-LHR has seen any increase to more than once a day. Nice surprise, I wonder what equipment will operate thie additional frequency.

That feeling when you sit at the end of a runway, brakes are released and the raw power takes over. Now that is a thing of beauty and it never gets old.

BA.com is showing a 744 operating both flights. New flights are, BA291 LHR 9:40AM PHX 12:25PM, BA290 PHX 2:35PM LHR 8:30AM +1.

BA288 and 289 operate at the usual times they do now.

F9's MIA activity is a little bizarre. It's flying ATL-MIA outside of South Florida peak season, when probably half leisure travelers from there heading to Florida just drive down to Florida anyways. It's cutting or seasonally flying LGA-MIA but it's New York's largest O&D domestic market and NYC is a destination in the summer for locals from South Florida. And LAS is cut and remains a popular destination. But it will service MIA-HAV.

Without clear success there, why not just consolidate back to FLL, the cheaper to operate airport? Similarly it's very small IAD presence is a head scratcher, when it could probably cover a few routes from BWI, better, complementing DCA.

This one looks like a misfile in OAG. They mean OSS (Osh, Kyrgyzstan), not OSH (Wittman Regional, Wisconsin).

I hadn't noticed the PHX move by BA. If that sticks it is a big deal. I think it mostly shows that Atlantic is presently the best use of slots.

I think MIA-HAV will be dead soon. I don't see how they make it work.

I actually have no idea what CDC is!

Not sure this route's been 5x daily before. It started at 4x, then dropped to 3x for a bit before going back to 4x.

Good point. That's a lot.

I don't know what it says in OAG - which, like this apparently old thread, is a bit of a mystery to me - but MIA-HAV is a recent change in the booking window.

Until recently it was greyed out at the end of March - going seasonal, perhaps? Now it's bookable at least through the whole window, until first week of June. I don't know if it's a coincidence but flights have been booked solid - as in sold out - for the past two weeks, so I'll wait until they actually publish the summer schedule before jumping to too many conclusions.

Without clear success there, why not just consolidate back to FLL, the cheaper to operate airport? Similarly it's very small IAD presence is a head scratcher, when it could probably cover a few routes from BWI, better, complementing DCA.

Oh, gosh. People - especially here - have been saying that about MIA pretty much since Frontier started there. LOL

CDC = Cedar City, UT.
Lighten up while you still can, don't even try to understand, just find a place to make your stand and take it easy

That's quite a move for BA on LHR-Phoenix. Good for them, an extra 3pw on a 747-400.

How is this an old thread. There is clearly a date in the title which indicates it isn't.

I checked the date before I posted and thought it was different. My apologies if it that's not so.

Maybe that explains it, then. A Christmas brain fart, perhaps, too much egg-nog.

MAX’d out on MAX threads. If you are starting a thread, and it’s about the MAX - stop. There’s already a thread that covers it.

Between this and the American Eagle additions on PHX-SGU, seems like a big bump in capacity for Southern Utah. It's gorgeous country; I've heard more and more people talking about visits to Escalante; and the Shakespeare festival in Cedar City is fantastic... but are tourists really using CDC and SGU instead of LAS? Or can the Southern Utah airports sustain this level of service based mainly on local demand?

The CDC isn't a real change, it "came out" last week. Lots of the SkyWest flying seems to fall out of this report one week and back in the next, there was no change in what was actually selling publicly. SkyWest is obligated to fly this route 12X weekly by the US government under their EAS contract, so any changes you see of them going down are just OAG processing errors. The schedules never change on DL.com or the GDS.

It has also been stated by others on the forum that all of the SGU service is provided by SkyWest at their own risk, not paid for by their major airline partners.

"SkyWest submitted a proposal to continue to provide Cedar City with 12 nonstop round trips per week to SLC for a two-year contract term using CRJ200 aircraft for an annual subsidy of $2,630,807. SkyWest would provide access to Delta Air Lines’ global network and excellent connectivity, through its hub at SLC."

So, is AM taking over the DL DTW-MEX flight? And by the same token, is DL taking over DTW-MTY?
It is interesting that IAD is less than daily; one would imagine that there would be enough traffic between the capitals to sustain daily service.
I am glad to see AM adding more frequencies to SFO.

I agree; good to see AM is doing well. There is also some graduate school traffic. And now that Mexico City is a fashionable destination, I would imagine there are many Bostonians interested in visiting the city too.
Upcoming flights:
May: AM MEX-CUN 73H (Y), AM CUN-MEX 73W (Y).
August: KL MEX-AMS 74M (J), KQ AMS-NBO 788 (J).
