I wonder if this is the mystery 125 737 Max MoU Boeing mentioned at the end of the Paris Air Show, with some adjustments (because IIRC the MoU was 125 + 50 options, or maybe it was 75+50 options?).

Sounds like this will be a new order once the paperwork is signed. There are no direct UFO orders for 75 frames, though there is a 50 frame UFO from 22 September and a number of large UFO orders in March.

Quite odd that Bloomberg reports a slightly different story at the same day:

Jet Airways India Ltd. will place an order for as many as 100 narrow-body aircraft by the end of March, becoming the latest South Asian carrier to unveil aggressive expansion plans in the world’s fastest growing major aviation market. Shares fell.

The carrier is in talks with planemakers to buy 75 to 100 single-aisle jets in the current fiscal year, Chief Executive Officer Vinay Dube said at a briefing in the southern Indian city of Chennai, declining to give more details.

Here is a different article:

http://www.livemint.com/Companies/ggSWk ... emand.html

"The carrier is in talks with planemakers to buy 75 to 100 single-aisle jets in the current fiscal year, chief executive officer Vinay Dube said at a briefing in the southern Indian city of Chennai, declining to give more details. Jet Airways was in talks to buy 50 single-aisle jets — either the biggest version of Boeing Co.’s 737 Max or Airbus SE’s A321neo — a person with direct knowledge of the plan said earlier this year.

The order would be valued at as much as $12.5 billion based on list prices for 100 Boeing 737 Max 10 jets, before discounts that are customary for large aircraft purchases. Jet Airways — in which Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways PJSC holds a minority stake — currently flies an all-Boeing narrow-body fleet and already has an order for the Max 8, the most popular of the planemaker’s revamped 737 models.'

Someone at Reuters must have saw the story/heard that Jet Airways is purchasing new jets soon and in their research found out about their previous 75 737 Max order and neglected to pay attention to the date.

There 2 different stories around right now on the Jet Airways

At the launch of the Chenai - Paris service the CEO said they are looking at buying between 75 and 100 narrowbody jets, either the MAX or the neo. The Bloomberg article on this deal claims that earlier this year they were told that they are looking at the largest variants, that's where the MAX-10 comes into play.

This was 1st reported in the Indian media.
http://www.livemint.com/Companies/ggSWk ... emand.html

Somewhat later today a Jet Airways delegation told the Dutch media at the launch of the Bangalore - Amsterdam service that they will be actually be ordering 75 737 MAX. That's probably the source for the Reuters article.

original source in Dutch:
https://www.luchtvaartnieuws.nl/nieuws/ ... -737-maxen

So who knows who is correct, but needles to say, a large order is underway and considering that Jet Airways is 737 operator it's most likely another order for the MAX.

Wasn’t there a UFO order for 75 737 MAX 8 at PAS 2017? I wonder if that turned out to be Jet Airways and are now converting it to the MAX 10? Or did we already find out who was behind that.

Only 75 frame MAX order in the past two years was for GECAS on 28 December 2016. SpiceJet took 100 two days later.

Large 2017 MAX orders for 2017 include CALC (China) for 50 in June and a UFO for 50 in September. There were a total of 84 ordered in three separate transactions (13 / 30 / 41) over the last week of March, but all the other recent UFOs have been smaller.

Just did some digging, I was thinking of that 125x 737 MAX 8 order by an unidentified customer.

Dear Boeing, please don't announce unidentified MOU's anymore just for the sake of the discussions in this thread.

We simply don't know who was behind that large announcement and when and in what numbers it will be firmed up.

I think this almost definitely is the 125x Unidentified from Paris Air Show. Possibly 75+ 50 options at the time or the other 50 are another carrier.

The 125 737MAX8 announced at PAS was a commitment not an order, hence why there is nothing on Boeing Books. Boeing also said the commitment was for an unidentified major airline customer, I wouldn't put Jet Airways into that category.

There aren't too many identified customers left with 16 or more NGs on order, just BOC Aviation Limited, Delta Air Lines, Jet2.com, Republic of Iraq, Ryanair & UTair Aviation.

And in the unidentified orders there's only 1 single NG order that is larger then 16. Other airlines could have 16 or more, where at least one part was still unidentified.

But if I would have to guess from this list I would go for the Iraq, they still had 16 737-800s on order and I can see a conversion as a deferral in disguise.

Would the upgrade, say MAX8 to MAX9/10, be also like that 16 new, 16 reduced? Perhaps we're looking at upgrade of the product rather, than change.

No, switching to different variants of the same family is not reflected in the order book in such a manner (for both Boeing and Airbus). Boeing no longer even breaks apart the 737MAX orders by variant, and in the past commonly used the 73G as just a placeholder for type. Conversion from NG/Ceo to Max/Neo is treated as switching to a different aircraft and is reflected in the orderbooks.

It should not, for Boeing currently does not break out MAX sales by model. So a MAX model swap would still show as a generic "MAX" in the order report and therefore there would not be a need (as of yet) to reflect that via a cancellation and rebooking.

Boeing does acknowledge model changes within a family via a cancellation and rebooking, which is why a 737NG to 737MAX (or vice-versa) order is reflected in this form. And once Boeing starts to record MAX (and 777X) orders by specific model (737-8, 737-10, 777-9, etc.) we should start seeing model changes reflected via this format.

Boeing separately lists the breakdown between the NG and MAX orders for this year.

last week: 737 net orders: 64 NG and 296 MAX
this week: 737 net orders: 48 NG and 312 MAX

So this one definitely is a conversion.

But it could also have been an order transfer, like from airline to leasing company, or just coincidence of course.

I really thought that after the first MAX's were delivered they'd start breaking it out by model, but still they haven't, which is kind of frustrating especially when trying to figure out how successful things like the the 9 and 7 are.

Does anyone know if they're planning on continuing the policy of throwing all models in one pot indefinitely or if the plan is to when more than one model is delivered (ie probably the 9) they'll start breaking it out?

China Southern to buy 38 Boeing jets worth $5.65 billion

China's largest airline by passenger numbers has agreed to buy 8 B777-300ER wide body jets and 30 B737-8 narrow bodies, the Chinese firm said in a stock exchange filing.
The planes will be delivered between 2019 and 2020 and will be funded through China Southern's own funds and loans from commercial banks, the company said.

Look at the qf789s post #364 for the totals, and read the 2 pages of this thread for all announcements. There haven't been any larger announcements for Airbus orders so far this month, just an ACJ and Aircalin with modest order.

Boeing recorded a 30 frame MAX order 10 days after the 777-300ERs (25 March) so that is probably this order. If not, then it will be a new order as Boeing has no other 30 frame UFO orders for 2017.

Could be even older than 2017 though, especially with a Chinese carrier. I'm hoping for a new, unrecorded order though!

QF789 has that 30 allocated to CDB Aviation, unless they are for lease to CSN

There was news article about the CBD order just before the unidentified order was booked. But that one was also already rumored as already booked as unidentified in a previous year.

You have to go back to 2014 for the next 30 frame UFOs (15 May and 14 November). That being said, 2014 had a number of large MAX UFO orders, so China is probably behind most of them so these 30 could be one of those old UFO (either one of the 30s or part of the larger orders).

I think it could be part of a larger order and just now allocated. But who knows.

Boeing released a short statement on the China Southern order.

"Boeing Statement on China Southern Airlines"

SEATTLE, Oct. 23, 2017 - We are pleased that China Southern Airlines has selected more Boeing 777-300ERs and the popular 737 MAX. This order will be posted to Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website once all contingencies are cleared.

http://boeing.mediaroom.com/news-releas ... tem=130048

This suggests that it's a new order, although "posted" could also mean identified... We just have to wait and see what happens on the upcoming weekly O&D updates.

Standard Boeing practice regarding Chinese orders is to use the phrase "will be posted to the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website once all contingencies are cleared", however they also note whether the orders are conversions (like Donghai's conversion of 10 MAX-8(?) to MAX-10) or were previously booked as UFOs.

That they did not note these were previously booked as UFOs implies to me that they are all new orders.

Which implies those two UFO 777 and 737 orders booked in March are very possibly for someone else.

Could be if there are 2 777s from another carrier in the unidentified count for the week (China Southern ordered 8).

They are 777Fs according to the latest update.

Edit: Was looking at the wrong date...
