Just confirmed in Norwegian media. Widerøe has ordered 3 E190-E2, with deliveries starting H1 2018. In addition they have 12 options for the same aircraft

Congrats to both parties, but how did Bombardier loose that one?? Assuming the Cs100 was offered of course.

Sexy plane.

Hopefully the rows are wide enough for wide Wideroe wayfarers.

...I'll see myself out.

probably on price. Embraer are reputed to be pricing their E2 significantly cheaper than the equivalent C Series as the development costs are much less.

Delivery time and flexibilty was factor AS well according to Widerøe's CEO

It is a different breed of airplane. You have the upper end of an airplane family (Embraer) competing with the lower end of another airplane family (CSeries). As such, the CS100 is heavier and more expensive compared to the E190-E2. So if you are not looking at purchasing the whole family, the E190-E2 is probably the better choice.

I really hope this works out for them. Anybody know which routes they are planning for?

Unbelievable! After Widerøe having flown only Canadian stuff for more than fifty years. Almost since the Twin Otter EIS.

What went wrong since they didn't choose CS100?

Well this has to be a blow to BBD I also note that some carriers have moved towards replacing Q400's with E175's it will be interesting to see their fleet in the years to come.

TRF-TRD/BGO/SVG seems likely.

Not really: http://www.scanair.no/images/LN-KOC-TRF140696-KOG.jpg

Although of course they did not pick it in the first place.

They probably don't want the CS range either. Wideroe is a regional operation so the Embraers would not be carrying round excess weight that's not wanted.

Congrats to Widerøe! They were in talks with both Bombardier and Embraer, and I was really hoping for the CS100. Both planes would have been excellent for them, but I believe the CS100 is a marginally better choice due to better runway performance. I suspect availability had something to do with the choice of the E-Jet E2.

Congratulations to Wideroe and Embraer. Embraer just won a really loyal Bombardier customer. Look forward to see this in Norway. I did not expect this order to go to Embraer, but I think the E2 jets will serve WF well.

I guess this will work well at larger airports, but I don't think it could be used on routes like SSJ. Short runway, which is not uncommon in Norway.

Y114. This means that Widerøe chose High Density configuration for its E190-E2. So do not expect to feel the same comfort of the current E-Jets flying in the Widerøe E2.

These are not for the short field network, but more for the longest and/or most traffic Heavy Q400 routes today. In addition it can open New possibilities if they order more than the first Three aircraft

The 190E2 is the best runway performer in E2 family but not so impressive as CS100. But lower capital and operational costs usually speaks louder. As Scot Hamilton remember today "There hasn’t been an order for the A318 since April 2015, and that was for a business jet configuration.". Maybe the future will reserve similar fate to CS100.

Wideroe pretty has two separate market to serve: The PSO network in various parts of Norway for which they need STOL-capable aircraft. And then the rather unspectacular regional network that links various larger Norwegian airports with long enough runways and also extends to Denmark and Sweden. That is where the Embraers will go and complement the Q400s (and probably also on some dometic SK-routes currently served with 736s).

Honestly, I think this order was Embraer's to lose. I'm not surprised that Widerøe chose them. I strongly suspect that Widerøe floated the CSeries possibility as more of a bargaining ploy than anything else.

Congratulations to both!

A decent gain for the E2 which could use more sales, but I don't see how 3 planes +12 options is a huge loss for BBD or a huge gain for EMB.

I could see the E190 on the Stavanger Aberdeen route as well.

Most of these flights have slowly started to be replaced by a mix of SAS' own 737-700 and wetleased CRJ-900 from Cityjet
