PAL new J and W revealed

Sun Jan 29, 2017 3:23 pm

Thedesignair has released PAL's new A330 J and W products. J is a Vantage XL à la Qantas and SAS. W is the 777 W seat from AirNZ.

Good strong hard product for a rise to a premium(ish or er) carrier.

Great looking product, always intrigues me though if we contrast and compare the presentation of the QF, and NZ products with the PR. Bit of bedding, mood lighting and champagne glasses makes all the difference same seat, both decent airline products - two different perceptions. Step up PR would have cost nothing.

I did have to check, this is not the space seat of the NZ 77W but the 789 W seat which is now on the 772 and will be refitted to the 77W this year.

PR always strike me as an interesting airline who are between 2 worlds of competing with SQ/CX and then having 414 seat all Y A330's.

I did fly PR BKK-MNL on their A330 in Y which wasn't all that bad...mind you only a 3hr sector. As to an all economy 414 seats, I think 5J have around the same number. I remember a trip report on their flight MNL-SIN, which was mostly positive, But...these new ones certainly look very nice.

At least they're trying... But nothing will happen to increase their rep unless they put that in the 777 (and A350 in the future).

Seems they will drop the controversial 3-3-3 seating in favour of a more classic 2-4-2 configuration, hopefully with IFE/PTV!

hello all, mind you the A330 you are all discussing about were acquired by then Ramon S Ang who brought the airline to an identity crisis of wanting to compete head on with a LCC and yet be a premium carrier at the same time. These A330s are just about to be reconfigured this 2017 and the first ones to start to be in service come June.
Under the current management, they are going to have the standard across the board, the 350s, the 321s and the 330s, as for the 77Ws --- I cannot say since the recently added two B77Ws had just the BCY enhanced.
Knowing that there are options for another 6 350s on top of the 350 already ordered and was identified to be their flagship, an implied way of saying the 77W is not their priced possession. Airbus did a good sales pitch to the carrier so with other asian carriers - they are buying their products by the dozen...hundreds :)

PAL is reportedly spending a pretty penny to upgrade these eight single-class A330s... :dollarsign: :dollarsign: :dollarsign: :dollarsign: :dollarsign: :dollarsign: :dollarsign: :dollarsign: ...

$10M per plane and the front P+ seats share one monitor high up on the bulkhead for each bank :?: In hindsight, they could've saved more if they ordered these 8 as A330-200s equipped with IFE at the outset. :crowded:

While I'm not really a fan of the colors on the seats they chose, the hard product is a definite improvement.

Still a long way to go before they can achieve 5 star status.

Does anyone know the seat pitch and width?

From the above article: "PAL selected the Thompson Vantage XL brand for its 18 business-class seats with a legroom of 44 inches, width of 23 inches to 24 inches and a full-flat recline with a bed length of 78 inches."

I only hope that they eventually refurb the 777 and get the A350s delivered with the XL and premium economy seats.
