Guwahati - 2 million annual passengers.New terminal of 77,500 sqft to be ready by 2019. Btw, can you share some link whch says its clogged?
No tender issued - by the time that happens - GAU will be clogged once more.
Pune - 6 million. IAF recently gave 16 acres of land surrounding the airport, for expansion. If villagers give their land, new Pune airport will be completed by 2019.
Ambitious, yet pace needs picking up. The new Pune International needs to be approved ASAP.
Patna -2 million. Cabinet cleared 11 acres land for expansion. A320 and B737 comfortably land and takeoff from 2000m long runway. A new terminal is planned to complete by 2020. Has many nonstop flights from Delhi and other destinations. (Not outbound to BOM or BLR however)
Cabinet had given permission to expand Bihta - is this plan for Patna as well..?
Rajkot - 2800 acres land given by Gujarat government. New airport construction to start soon.
This has been dead in the water for quite some time.
Both Chennai and Kozhikode also have planned new airports and terminals, which will be completed by 2021.
They're still in the planning phase - they haven't broken ground. Merely planning is not enough if India has to keep the momentum growing.
Meanwhile, AAI uses their standard piecemeal approach to airports that are literally bursting out of seams. This pace of airport capacity growth is substandard, no matter how one cuts it.
EDIT - www.financialexpress.com/opinion/indias ... es/323818/
Airlines in India have been busy adding capacity as the aviation market grew the fastest globally, at 20.3%, in 2015. IndiGo and Go Air have between them placed orders for 322 Airbus A320neo aircraft over the past few months. The problem, however, is airport capacity. According to a CAPA study, India’s Airport Capacity Crisis, 18 of the 30 larger non-metro airports have already exceeded capacity or will be saturated over the next two years. Capacity utilisation at the Jammu airport is 278%, 167% in Bagdogra, 127% in Kozhikode, 115% in Guwahati and 95% in Lucknow.
Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Coimbatore and Srinagar too will join the list in 2018. Mumbai will get some respite in 2020, if the Navi Mumbai airport (25 million) is commissioned. A new airport is planned at Mopa (Goa) while a smaller one is coming up at Kannur (Kerala).
