Agree with KLDC10 and oldannyboy that there is a retro flavor about the new livery. I personally don't mind that they decided to choose black, as it is seldom used in liveries, so that is an interesting and welcome choice. I like the tail and the cowlings a lot and, most of all, the underbelly. i suppose the black-white stark contrast, together with the red logos is what makes many of us think "retro".

Overall though, I have not yet decided if I prefer the current ice blue livery or this new one.
Upcoming flights:
May: AM MEX-CUN 73H (Y), AM CUN-MEX 73W (Y).
August: KL MEX-AMS 74M (J), KQ AMS-NBO 788 (J).

Any idea when the livery on other planes will be released? I feel like it'd look better on the A330 or 73MAX.

Don't hate me for saying this, but I actually kind of like it. Looks like a modernized version of the livery they had up until 2004. The Maple Leaf should be bigger in my mind, but whatever.

It's a nice livery, but.... Looks too similar to Delta in my opinion. It's getting harder and harder to identify airlines from a distance anymore. I wish they would have stuck with their current livery, or a new livery that just "wows" the viewer.

Page 8 and 9 in this pdf show all aircrafts in the new livery

The mask is distracting, otherwise it's nice. Also I think Red titles would have been better

I fell like if they really wanted to catch the natural beauty and splendor of Canada, they should've went with a very dark/deep green instead of black. I also agree with Polot that there should be some red pinstripe on the border of the black and white, as well as red letters.

TBH, I'm on the fence. But I was also on the fence with AAs livery and I've grown to accept (and just barely like) it.

Is this the first time an airline has replaced an existing livery with an update on a previous livery ? It's "OK" I guess but was hoping for a more traditional red based scheme, whatever that may have been...

I like it overall, but I'm not convinced by the racoon eyes.

Also I feel like it will look best on CRJs. The shape of the windows seems to fit the racoon mask better.

Of all the recent unveilings of new liveries, this one by Air Canada is average. The racoon mask just doesn't work well. Good to see that the fuselage isn't entirely white. Hope that with their new livery unveiling comes with new and improved service. My first and only trip on Air Canada from SFO to CDG a few years ago really did not make me want to fly them ever again.

What the phuck? This is one of the most pointless, boring livery refreshes I've ever seen. And that's saying something when we've had the destructive "creativity" of the new Iberia, China Eastern, LATAM, American, Royal Air Maroc, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Japan Airlines (and for some, Finnair & Swiss too!) et al over the last few years :white:

The colours are ummm...colourless, the maple circle at the front is completely lost, nay irrelevant, tucked away down there and the logo on the tail is too small and feels like it's swimming around aimlessly. In a nutshell, this livery is little more than an dull, irrelevant, pointless and costly rehash of their then-decent 1990s livery. That was heading out of fashion in 2004, so why do they think it'd be any better now?

The lack of vibrancy or life in this scheme makes me feel this is reflective of the increasingly fractious, negative energy times we are living in. It's a Trumpian livery, perfectly suited to the demagogue aside for the the fact "his" fiefdom is further south.

Ohhhh and that ludicrous marketing speel about the livery reflecting Canada's "natural beauty and striking landscapes" that you're all referencing? Wow! I'm in marketing and I WOULD have resigned over that :banghead:

To sum up: these airlines and their branding agencies are little short of incomprehensibly incompetent. It's insulting to the many brilliant designers, marketers and branding people out there. Quite a few heads should roll over all these livery epic fails.

I'm done. Rant over :bouncy:

All airlines copy each other in their liveries, advertisements, service and so on. If black worked for Air New Zealand and UPS why not for Air Canada? Something is wrong with the black belly, looks like the Titanic to me. Very formal and a little frightening. Black is not a colour. A colour is a colour.

I love it. It's classy, sort of like BA's Landor livery, but less arrogant. The Rondelles on the fuselage, belly and engines are lovely details. I'm relieved it turned out so well.

I was prepared to hate it when I saw the leaked pics of its late-night arrival, but seeing the real thing, I have to say it's classy and simple. I like it. I just hope that they manage to keep all that white clean.

By the time the last bird in the fleet is painted we should be due for another new livery :)

I think that was the point (the formal part) and the pdf of all the planes in the fleet highlights it well. Black and formal for business focus mainline, heavy red emphasis on more leisure oriented Rouge.

I think it looks way better in person, I bet it will look pretty good outside in the winter. Only critique may be that they should have done the maple leaf on the tail half-on, something like the Rouge tail. It looks a bit off at how small it is.

And some people are asking how it embodies Canada, heres a link to their pdf:

But the engines could have been white.

Is the Beech 1900 going away? It's not mentioned in this document.

I do like the route map designs in this document, though.
The plural of Airbus is Airbuses. Airbii is not a word.
There is no 787-800, nor 787-900 or 747-800. It's 787-8, 787-9, and 747-8.
A321neoLR is also unnecessary. It's simply A321LR.
Airplanes don't have isles, they have aisles.

Overall, i like it. I agree with posters above re raising the black a little higher and adding a very thin red cheatline. I find the font/colour of the 'Air Canada' to be a little severe, however overall very good!

The problem with the colour red is it fades to pink. We can see this on the current livery and it tends not to look good.

Hope not. Love my frequent trips across Newfoundland in those little birds- they've got a certain charm to them.

All in all, this is a lovely change- very sleek, very classy. So happy to see that ungodly blue/green/whatever go.

Why do they feel the need to change their current livery? The current AC livery is striking and different from any other. This new one is just plain boring and looks like any other euro white livery.

I agree, but that's it. The roundel on the belly and on the fuselage really look like an afterthought. They should have positioned the roundel next to the name.

Then the black. The livery is "inspired by Canada?" Well, I mean, maybe if AC flew in the high arctic then the black could be inspired by Canada half the year, but they don't. Air Canada should have been red. Sure the Viscount era livery had the name in black, but it also had a big red cheat line.

All of that I can live with. The bandit cockpit windows though are hideous. Like they had an executive's kids design it.

I don't know. Just seems very bland (aside from that stupid bandit face) especially after the intricacy of the previous livery (Though I heard from someone at Boeing that the AC tail was one of the most intensive ones they paint)

I'm pretty disappointed. Happy to see the roundel make a return, but pretty turned off by the rest of it.

I actually really like it. It does put me in mind of DL, but I think this one is a little better? I can see why they went with the black, it makes the maple leaf stand out, and not many airlines use black as a livery color. The one's that pop into my are Air New Zealand with their all black planes, Spirit had black and gray on an old livery, and StarFlyer out of Japan is pretty much all black. I think the black is refreshing, especially in contrast to the Euro-white and bright orange/red maple leaf. Not to mention the bandit cockpit looks different, and I think the livery looks great as a whole. Do we know when the repainting is suppose to begin?
