BA launching LHR-MSY charters ahead of scheduled, special MSY catering

Thu Feb 09, 2017 5:03 pm

BA will run chartered services between LHR and MSY on February 24-27, VIP invite only, featuring local mixology experts offering signature New Orleans cocktails and treats to Europe-originating traffic.

Image

The specialized drink service will then be offered to all pax (including Y) for 1month, beginning with the inauguration on March 27 (I'll be on it, so plenty of pics!)

Good stuff. Especially enjoyed the YouTube video. I'll have to check that place out next time I'm in London.

3/27 will be a great day indeed for New Orleans and the entire Gulf South region.
Spread hope like fire.

The release's note to editor is arguably wrong (when it starts, but not come summer):

British Airways will be the only airline flying direct between Europe and New Orleans - See more at: http://mediacentre.britishairways.com/p ... cIjJA.dpuf

I`ll definitely raise a glass to the success of this new service!
Well done to all involved in making this happen.

Didn't Air France use to fly this route? When did they stop?
Read this very carefully, I shall write this only once!

BA flew LHR-MSY-MEX before they flew LHR-MEX direct. I think that may have been in the late 80s or very early 90s. Anyone know for sure?

Nothing wrong nor untrue about it. When they start, they'll be the only carrier offering a nonstop to/from Europe.
They're under no obligation to reveal how long that status will last.

AF has never offered scheduled service to MSY.

MSY's sole scheduled transatlantic carriers in the past were NA (AMS) and BA (LGW, MEX).
NA also scheduled FRA and ORY from MSY in 1979, but the flights never launched.

LGW-MSY-MEX, ended in 1982.

I guess it would be best to avoid Hand Grenades when drawing up the in-flight cocktail menu...

So how is it pronounced? I can think of plenty of City/town names pronounced wrongly by non brits.

Fifty pairs of tickets on this Mardi Gras flight were auctioned on e-bay. The auction closed on 11 December last.

The auctioned tickets cover the return air fare, transfers, three nights accommodation in New Orleans and grand stand tickets for the Mardi Gras parade. Ten per cent of the auction income was donated to the BA charity, 'Flying Start'. Also included is live in-flight entertainment from the three winners of a BA jazz musicians' competition and Nicole Scherzinger.

Plenty of ways, but that's easily the most annoying one, to local Louisianians... unless you're using it to rhyme verses in a song (e.g. "What it means, to miss New Orleans.")

Otherwise, by farrrrr the most common is "OR-linz" (pronounced like lens, pins, grins, etc)

Another is "OR-lee-ANZ" (like the name Ian, with an "s" at the end)

And then there's the ever-present, rarer, and almost equally-annoying "N'awlins" that everyone who's not from there, seems to believe we say. The overwhelming majority don't. That's right up there with "Frisco"... which I've quickly learned that no one who's actually from SFO uses. :-P

Exactly correct about San Francisco. When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area if one was going to visit the City of San Francisco they would just say "they were going to the City".

Anyone know the load factor?

Got to see it land and taxi to the gate. Counting heads coming off the plane, it was a bit shy of 200 total (didn't exclude crew, which was at least 12 or more). If you search the internet, you should be able to find a few videos of the crew dancing in the terminal to a jazz band just outside of the FIS.

Yeah, I'm hearing that they parked it between concourse A and the highway, so everyone passing along the south and also the access road will see it.

I'm also hearing that they're planning on giving local company bigwigs, tours of the J cabin? Can anyone confirm if that's going on?

...if so, then well done BA! **THAT** is how ya market a new int'l service.
AeroMexico and Copa, pay attention and learn something. :(

So are these actually legit passengers or is it just a bunch of pretty social media semi-celebrities that they filled the cabin with for pictures?

The seats were auctioned off as part of a package with hotel etc. with some of the proceeds going to charity. I'm sure they had a few VIP invitees as well. But definitely not sold as regularly scheduled service.

It's definitely parked at the end of the closed concourse A and Airline Highway. Don't know about the tours.

This is my first close look at the 788 and BA's livery. I really like the livery, simple and classy. I think I probably prefer the proportions of the 789 over the 788 as the one here seems slightly stubby in person. Still a fine looking plane though. The flight attendant uniforms were very classy and professional looking. The black gloves are a nice touch for the ladies as its something we don't often see here. It was just a different thing to see as most of my flying is on WN and AA.

Have to ask...who is that pretty lady in the first picture seated between the two pilots - looks like the captain's hand and her leg are kind of close to each other :-). If I was in a photo like that and my wife saw it I would be a dead man!

It's Nicole Sherzinger (formerly of The Pussycat Dolls).

This is a really smart move by BA to generate PR for a new route. I've seen lots of coverage on Instagram for this.

They've created a Twitter tag (#BAlovesNOLA) that's getting a lot of attention to. Thrilled that they're finding all sorts of creative ways to market this flight!
