Which aircraft has BA and Lufthansa operated to PHL over the years by decade?

Don't know about what they served in the 1960s thru early 2000s

British Airways have flown all of their Boeing longhaul fleet over the last few years. Prior to the turn of the century I am not sure.

747/767/777/787

Philly was the launch destination for the 747-400 I think, and the jumbo is making a return on BA67/66 this summer season.

The following is the best I can recall:
BA 1960s 707, SVC-10, VC-10
1970s 707, SVC-10, 741, 742, L10
1980s 741, 742, L10. L15
1990s 744, L15, L10?
2000s 744, 772
LH 1960s 707
1970s 707, 742, 742F, D10
1980s 310, D10
1990s 310, D10, 300?
2000s All 3 above transitioned into the 330, 340 and 744 at some point

BA switched to 772/744 in mid-90's, switched to 744/744 in the late 90's, down to 772/763 in the early 2000's, to 772/788 in the past few years when the 763 was retired, then up to a mix of 772/788/789 over the past year and soon down to a solo 744.

LH predominantly operated the 343 with the 333 mixed in during the winter. The 744 operated in the early stages of US joining *A but then quickly went back down to 343 for several years. Surprisingly after US left *A LH bumped capacity up to a mix of 346/333/744 but then ultimately back down to the Cityline 343.

Yes. The inaugural BA 744 commercial flight was BA219 (LHR-PHL-PIT) operated by G-BNLC on 28 July 1989. This flight on this routing was still being operated by a 744 as at the end of Summer Season 1993 (30 October). I have no detail beyond then until very much more recently.

Isn't BA switching to the 744 this summer because they dropped the 2nd LHR/PHL flight?

LH I can only guess uses the Cityline 343 because they likely had trouble filling the seats upfront on a standard LH aircraft plus with the US/AA merger they lost the *A connections.

And I have a fuselage section of the wonderful G-BNLC proudly displayed on my wall at home :D

If I recall correctly, around 1990, BA was utilizing 747-136s on the PHL-EWR-LHR run (at the time, the flight made a scheduled stop at EWR enroute to LHR). My first time around, the flight operated from the old Overseas Terminal at PHL....a cavernous and antiquated barn of a terminal with one jetway which, thankfully, was razed to make room for the economy parking lot.

Around 5 years later, the same birds were still in service but the departure was from what is now called Terminal A East. I recall having a business class booking flying on G-AWNJ in both directions. I loved the growl of those JT-9Ds! Once the -100s were removed from service, I recall seeing 747-436s flying the route sometimes supplemented by the 767-336s.

I also did a couple of PHL-FRA round trips on LH in the 2000-2002 timeframe, and they were flying A342s at the time.

As a nostalgic afterthought.....missing in action are the SR 747-300s that flew PHL-BOS-ZRH. My first of many experiences with the upper deck on a 74!
